TMI but I'm freaking out

Recommended Posts

Has anyone has impacted stool? Yesterday morning I noticed that I was having trouble and that I hadn't really experienced anythikng like it before. I am 2 no the post op RNY and have suffered some Constipation but for the most part have had regular am BM.

I've had to to some unorthodox things to help with this situation and last night I drank some milk of magnesia to maybe help soften what was left. Well this morning I found myself batrlijng the softr stool that was stuck behind the hard stool.

I'm scared, I don't want to injure myself but now whatever is left is causing some annoying discomfort. Help a girl out...the last thing I want is a rubber glove and a doctor

Dulcolax supp or fleets enema will clean it out.

I know this sounds gross, but a latex glove and your gentle hands would be better and less embarrassing than a doctors. I would try the enema first, but I have had to clean myself out before and usually only have to do it once to get things moving.

I know how miserable you are right now. I pray things get moving today for you.

Try a fleets enema first (you can get them OTC at pretty much any store that has a pharmacy). Hold off on taking any more Milk of magnesia until you can get the hard/impacted stool out. You also might want to try using something like Miralax regularly moving forward to help keep your stools soft so they're less likely to become impacted. I would not recommend trying to do a manual disimpaction yourself (meaning digging the stool out with your fingers - gloved or not) because of the risk for trauma to the area and potential for perforation and/or infections.

Trust me, digging it out yourself, if you are gentle (and you will be, because anything else is PAINFUL), won't injure you or cause problems. Doctors don't have anything special either. Gloves and a lubricant are all that are needed. Maybe trim your fingernails ;)

I second the enema as well.

Good luck!! Hope it all comes out ok!

Actually, depending on medications someone may or may not be taking, the person's general anatomy, and technique used (gentle can mean different things to different people after all) digging it out yourself CAN cause injury. I'm not trying to scare the OP but without knowing their medical history, I don't think it's wise to advise someone to proceed with a manual disimpaction without at least running it by their doctor first.

(Ruminating to myself about all the naughty bedroom-things that I should probably have run by my proctologist before doing...)

I want to thank all of your input! It has not been a fun morning lol. I am on my way to buy a suppository...if that doesn't work I will wait a little and try an enema...just nervous :( and wouldn't ya know...i have tickets for the fair tonight lol. Thank you for the prayers. I will update on how the suppository works!

This always happens to me after having general anesthesia. I have had the embarrassment of letting my doctor do this, and I can assure you he was not gentle at all nor did he look at any xrays or anything to know my anatomy before he did it.

I would not put myself through that again without first trying myself. It has worked for me and I was just trying to help her out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
