I have no family around or any who would want to travel to help me. Most of the people I know are married and/or have full lives so it is difficult to find someone. I asked my neighbor and offered her money. She told me to give her a surgery date and she would see if she could get the time off. However, if she can't then, I will be forced to start the search all over. I already know from last year that my insurance company will not cover a visiting nurse. Any suggestions?

I hope it works out with your neighbor. Where are you getting your surgery and when? Do you have any close friends or coworkers you could ask as back up?[emoji848]

NO FAMILY AROUND. Honest. My surgery has not been scheduled yet. I am not working. I am having the surgery done in my home town.

I had help but I really think I could've managed on my own. As long as you don't have to lift anything. Make sure all your laundry is done, house clean, shakes and Water purchased, Vitamins purchased etc and you will be ok. Maybe just a drop in after work to help with dishes for a couple of days. Assuming there are no complications you might be just fine.

Other than a ride home from the hospital, you probably won't need assistance. Just stock up on a variety of approved liquids for the first few days home, and you'll be set. Clean your house and do the shopping right before the procedure.

Oh yeah! A ride is mandatory!

Day 1 & 2 in hospital, day 3 & 4 pretty much in bed and by day 5 you'll be fine. I'm on day 4. Don't want to do anything or go anywhere but I could if I had to. Protein Shakes, Vitamins and lots of water!

Thanks, guys, and gals. I was hoping you would tell me this. I will just have my neighbor stay with me the first 8 hours or so. Usually, after surgery, I want to be left alone to sleep but the doc is insisting I have someone with me for 24-48 hours. I really don't need to have someone around who is bored and is trying to hold a conversation with me.

Just echoing everyone. You won't need assistance if you plan ahead. But ya, ask anyone to stay just during the initial arrival home in case you can't call 911. Ideally, you'd want another human nearby to call 911 but not everyone has that ability. You just have to be extra vigilant since infection and clots tend to give you some warning.

If you run out of any supplies and you're still on narcotics you can use apps to send a stranger to bring whatever you need right to you!

You could check out a company like this one. http://www.synergyhomecare.com/

not sure they are in Nevada, but a similar company will be. We used one last year for what called go fetch. It was great.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
