I need inspiration surgery 5/2-17 vsg

Recommended Posts

I had Surgery on 5-2-17 I honestly feel like I messed up !!! I regret this surgery every single day . I'm taking antidepressants and anti anxiety medications because I'm so depressed. I never took any medications prior to surgery . I feel like I need inspiration from people who have been successful with the sleeve.

I am 8 months post-op, have lost 203 pounds, and am 14 pounds from goal. I have completely re-defined my relationship with food, changed my life for the better, and positioned myself for a long, healthy life!

The early weeks post-op are among the most difficult times in this journey. But it is more important than ever to follow your plan, meet your Protein and Water goals each day, exercise as you can, let your body heal, and stay off of the scale.

Good luck!

@Joann454 I don't think is healthy . I'm afraid of getting sick. I can't stand the food restrictions. I don't feel me anymore. I'm lactose intolerant now . I was never before . It make decision worst .

I'm so sorry you're struggling. Maybe seek out someone to talk to that can help you embrace your new way of living? Are you eating/drinking enough Protein and Water. It doesn't have to be and shouldn't be unhealthy. It should be the opposite. I became lactose intolerant before surgery. It might have happened at some point for you. I hope you can find peace with your decision.

I'm sorry you are struggling! Have you tried Fairlife milk? I'm lactose intolerant and my Nutritionist suggested this and have been drinking since. You don't know it's ff and has 13g Protein per serving. Have you checked out Pinterest for post-op bariatric recipes? They have tons of recipes that you may like. I think "buyers remorse" is fairly normal in the early stages by what I've read on here, but they say it does get better. I'm getting sleeved on June 30th and I am drawing so much inspiration from people here and on various bariatric Facebook groups. Keep your head up and best of luck!

Well you can't undo it, so there is no point crying over spilled milk. What is done is done.

The food restrictions are for a very short time. 3 to 6 months.

The lactose, elaborate on what make you think you are lactose intolerant now. Even if you are for the moment, you probably won't be long term.

This is a short term situation. Antidepressants are unlikely to help you with situational depression that is not based on a chemical imbalance. You need to learn to make peace with your choice and move forward.

Why did you choose to have surgery in the first place? Maybe remembering that choice will help.

This is terrible advice. What's done is done, isn't comforting or supportive. It a little mean in fact. Secondly, depression can be exogenous on endogenous and both forms absolutely benefit from medication.

At only a month post-op, your food restrictions are still in full effect. In another month, you will be allowed to eat a whole lot of other things, and will fit in maybe twice as much.

As long as you are getting your liquids, Vitamins, and Protein, you can live for a year or two just on your fat reserves. So please don't worry about malnutrition :)

Try and do a fun thing each day to help make the time go faster. Make lists of activities that you want to do when you are thinner, as well as things you can do now. Goals, rewards.. all these things that keep you looking forward to where you are going, instead of bogging your mind down in the now, or even the past.

{Hugs} everything will work out! You'll see!

This definitely is not short term. And the food restrictions are not 3 to 6 months. Don't feel bad about having to take antidepressants, if you need them to help get you through this then that's OK. That can be short term. Give yourself time to heal and adjust. You will make it through this hard step. It definitely is a life changer and take a lot of work but you will get it and when you do your going to be so proud of yourself for making it. We are all here for you to make sure you get there. Ask as many question as you like and don't feel that there's any dumb questions. I can relate to the lactose issue. I don't know what it is but it gets me every time. So you just have to try some alternatives. It really does get easier and you'll be feeling great.

P. S. Outside Match Inside has got it all wrong.

Hang in there and if you want to talk I'm here for you.
God Bless You

Just to clarify, food restriction can mean two different things.

1. The actual quantity of food you are able to eat. This restriction gradually eases over a couple years, but you will never be able to eat as much as you did preop. (It is usually stated that you'll be able to eat a cup of food long term.. but depending on what it is, I can do that already! 12 weeks post op)

2. The dietary restriction during the first 8 weeks post op that says you can't just eat anything. Once you are 9 weeks post op, according to most surgeons, you are released to eat whatever you want. Not everything will necessarily agree with you, but you are allowed to try.

I was talking about restriction #2. It is awful nice when you are released to try anything, because going to restaurants and joining the family or friends at mealtime is so important for our psychological well-being.

Do we have to be "on a diet" forever? Yes, most of us do. But the occasional bite of something off-diet is also part of living a full life.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
