I am just curious if anyone was or us like me and have doubt about getting the surgery. I am one week away and having second thoughts. Whether I can do it without surgery, is this the right thing.

You can lose weight without surgery. So could I. In fact, prior to surgery, I'd lost more than 200+ pounds since my teens. I'd lose 50 then regain 60. I'd lose 60 then regain 100. Rinse and repeat.

Most obese and formerly fat people can lose weight just fine without weight loss surgery. But here's the lick...can you keep it off without surgery? In all likelihood, nope.

I'd bet top dollar that you probably wouldn't be able to maintain whatever weight you lose without bariatric surgery. Without surgery, there's a 95% chance you'll regain it all plus more.

So, yes, you can do it in your own. However, there's a catch. Always remember that obesity is not curable, ever. Your body will fight to regain and resist any weight loss efforts you initiate on your own.

My surgery is in a week on 6/12 and I started at 262 and I'm about 226. I have learned a lot though this journey and I am continuing to learn more each day with the help and support from everyone here. If I could do my surgery tomorrow I would. I have embraced it. In the past my weight was like a yoyo I would lose then gain it back in a couple of months so I need this surgery.

I think almost universally everyone planning on WLS goes through the question of should I or shouldn't I. For me it came down to the ability to lose weight vs keep it off. I always could lose weight, but never could keep it off. I think having doubts is normal, and you should definitely do what you think is best.

Many of us went through this. I had fully decided I could do it on my own. I gained weight during that time. If I could've I would've by now. I needed help.

Oh my gosh yes. I went to my first weight loss surgery place over a 1 year ago. Starting loosing weight and thought "I can do this my self". Yeah right! I never could before why did I think this time would be different.

So here I am a year later had my surgery (4/18/17) and I have LOVED every minute of it! I am down 34 pounds in 7 weeks and feeling so good! All I can say is DO IT! Once the weight starts coming off, you will wish you did it along time ago. That's what I keep saying to myself.

Wish you the best!

you guys are awesome. I needed to hear all of that. I just see other people losing without surgery and say why can't i do that. but I have talked to 3 doctors, a psychologist and my rheumatologist who all agree that I should have this surgery to help with my severe RA. I just say if I could not do it ait without surgery can I be successful with it. but all of you are mom v me excited again. thanks

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
