Has Fern Britton Had A Band?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I have been watching Fern Britton on GMTV and she is having really amazing success with her weight loss at the present time. I just wonder if she maybe is having a little help from our magic lap band?

What does everyone else think?

If Fern has had a band, then it is nobody's business but her own!!!

I haven't told anyone and I'd be completely mortified if I found myself being discussed like this on a forum!

Just because she presents a daily television programme, it does not give us carte Blanche to spread gossip about her!

Just because we need a little help doesn't mean everyone does!

(Steps down from soap box and slopes off to side lines:o)

I was wondering the same thing but I know that Fern is in training because she is doing the sponsored bike ride again this year. I really like this lady and admire her so much.

And I also think she is looking rather wonderful. Go for it Fern!::clap2:

You know before my surgery was funded i had to have a psycological assesment. If i had in anyway referred to the band as Magic or if fact any form of WLS is Magic i would have been considerd delusional and unrealistic and never have been awarded funding.

In no way is the lapband Magic at its best its extremily hard work and generally its very difficult and at its worse its horrendous. Its no way magic and people should in no way be lead to believe that WLS is a Magic Cure to weight Loss.

Having said that Fern is looking great but even when she's big i think she looks great.

Did any of you see Anne Diamond stuffing her face on cooking the books the other week? She ate like a pig and certanly wasn't following the band rules of small bites chew chew chew! unbelievable i genuinly dont know how she fitted it in.

I too have been wondering about Fern, on the programme she doesn't discuss her weight loss and doesn't appear comfortable if anyone else does which strikes me as strange but have to say she looks 1000% better - whichever way she's lost it.

I think Fern looks great-soon she wont need a super-imposed models body attached to her head in the tv adverts-she will have a stunning figure of her own! I think shes great no matter larger or smaller. Well done to her which ever ways shes achieving her weight loss.

I don't think she has. Didn't she do some cycling trip recently in the desert? Plus her hubby is a chef so is probably able to cook low fat meals for her.

She finally announced in the papers yesterday that she has lost her weight with the aid of a band!

I knew she was having a little help.

She looks fantastic.

I wonder which company she went with?

I suspected as much, but feel so encouraged by her admission because she has only really visably started losing in the last year, but her band fitting was two years ago. This has helped me to stop feeling so discouraged at my own lack of progress eight months in. Brilliant effort Fern, if you read this, I salute you and know that you have most certainly not taken the easy way out. You are my new role model.

I agree she is a completely wonderful role model and I agree it is not the easy option but it does give you hope like you say for some people it is a slow process. (Me included) I have not lost an ounce since Novemeber! But on the other hand I have not put an ounce on!

Would someone be critisised for using smoking Patches to stop smoking or HRT Patches to help with menopause. No, of course they woudlnt, they woudl be applauded for making an effort to change their life. So, why is it that people who have a lap band are ridiculed. I personally only told my 15 year old daughter that I was havign surgery and it was fantastic not to have to listen to anyone elses opinion.

I then made the mistake of telling my best friend one night when she caught me pb'ing. What a catastrophe, she didnt understand at all and when, a month later, I had a mini stroke because of a car accident she said ' do you think it is because you had that operation and havnt been eating properly". I was absolutely gutted and felt really let down. I totally agree with Fern that it is a personal decision and she does not need to ask anyones permission. The other argument against her is that she has made money from advertisements for weight loss products but we all know that the band is not a magic wand and that you do have to have some will power and watch what you eat so she wasnt exactly lying was she.

Rant over, I just wish people didnt feel the need to critise so easily.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
