I was sleeves in September and have reached goal weight. I haven't had any major complications.

However, not infrequently when going to sleep, or sometimes when I've been asleep, I wake up slightly regurgitating, sometimes almost on the verge of vomiting.

I'm not overfull or uncomfortable, and my diet is very consistent. I typically have a Protein Shake and small snack in the evening. I can't discern any pattern in what I eat and when this occurs.

Before I reach out to my surgeon, I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

Sounds a lot like GERD. It happened to me quite a bit before surgery.

Is it possible to have GERD without the heartburn? I've had GERD for years and take a med for it, and I almost never have heartburn, and I didn't have this problem prior to surgery.

Best to contact your physician about this to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

You could have silent reflux, which may present with no heartburn.

When that happened to me, it was usually not accompanied by heartburn. I would just wake up from sleeping that way. I agree it is a good idea to talk to your Surgeon though.

I'm only 4 weeks post-op but GERD is a real issue for me. I finally broke down and started taking my Nexium again. I still have issues after eating even soft foods but the Nexium is helping. I've work up a few times with that same feeling you have, which is the feeling of regurgitation and/or the need to vomit. I also have sinus troubles and have post-nasal drip which sometimes causes the GERD. Whenever my sinus's flare up I either sleep in a recliner sitting up or if you are fortunate enough and you have an adjustable bed you can sleep sitting up a bit. It helps.

I do not have reflux, and am pre-VGS. But, I have always kept my bed elevated. A trick I use, I heard from a doctor years ago, is to get a few pieces of plywood (3/4" thick or greater). Put these under the feet of the head of your bed. You will only slightly notice that the bed is elevated, but apparently it does wonders for people who have reflux.

You can usually get scraps free from Home Depot/Lowes. Just get pieces at least a square foot so the bed doesn't fall off (if it does, it's easy to push the wood back under the feet).

Best thing is, this is free/cheap, so if it doesn't help you can come back here and yell at me without your wallet hurting!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
