Why did you pick this surgery?

Recommended Posts

I too am considering revision to RNY. My lap-band experience was good for a while, and I lost weight, but I developed esophageal dilation and had to have an unfill. I've regained all my weight plus some, and now am not sure what to do. I qualify for conversion, I'm just scared.

Will I ever be able to eat foods I enjoy again? Will I look like a shriveled flappy scarecrow? After lapband, I had lots of extra skin and it bugged me, so I'm not thrilled about that. But I'm at high risk of diabetes, have high cholesterol and inflammatory arthritis. I have lots of foot and ankle pain and swelling, so it's hard to get moving and exercise. I just don't know if I have any hope left that I can make a long lasting change without more surgery.

It's really not that bad...I was scared too. The band is dangerous. I didn't realize how dangerous until I started having problems. I'm sore from surgery but my pain meds take care of that. It's only 4 days and I lost 10lbs. and I don't feel washed out. I start my Vitamins on Wed. I very proud that I took the step.

I also had problems with my band and to get it removed. I opted to have the bypass. It's been a slow recovery, surgery on May 17th. Still no real appetite and some dehydration. I have lost a total of 26 pounds. I know it will take time to get back to feeling like me again. Stay the course and be strong.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
