Normal not to loose weight on pre op?

Recommended Posts

Ok maybe I'm an alarmest or basically not eating making me edgy so hoping some of you can give positive advice. Started diet Monday and lost 4 lbs til Thursday. Fri and today no loss!!. I am getting all liquids in ...water/protein drink and Health Meal etc for dinner. Tracking cals and Protein. I'm allotted 1200 cal per day but doing between 850-950. Maybe this is normal and just knowing that would help or if I'm doing something 'wrong' that I can tweek. If anyone has experienced this it sure would help. Thanks

I didn't weigh myself once during preop. I knew I was doing what I was told. Surgery morning they weighed me and I had lost 15 lbs. if you're following what they say don't worry about anything else.

It is normal for weightloss to be done in a stairstep fashion - lose some, then pause, lose some more, pause again (maybe even gain a pound or two).... rather than an straight line x pounds per day or week. Most of the fluctuation can be chalked up to variations in Water weight, which so many things influence. If it bothers you, don't weigh daily but rather weekly or monthly.

Weight loss is an added bonus during pre-op, now matter how many or few lbs lost. It's all for your liver. Just follow your plan and it'll be fine.

I've learned don't weigh every day. Im perimenapausal and my weight fluctuates with 2 periods and mos and my legs retaining Water some days. I try not to weigh myself more than twice a week and know that if I gain or don't lose while menstruating that 3 days after I always drop a few lbs quick. But after the pre op my stomach felt flatter and less bloated. As long as you follow the instructions its more aimed at shrinking your liver before surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
