I know this will sound selfish

I am scheduled to have surgery on May 31, and my husband broke his foot today, the heel bone. He may have to have surgery as soon as the end of this coming week, so I'm not sure yet but I may have to postpone my surgery. I feel so sorry for him, he even feels so bad about it that he keeps apologizing to me for his foot being broken, and it's not his fault. I would never let him know that I'm crying inside at the thought of having to wait after all my hard work to get to this point, I just said we'll figure it out, no big deal. He is looking at being non-weight bearing on the broken foot for maybe two months with or without surgery. We see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday or Tuesday so hopefully he can give us a better idea of what to expect.

I do feel horrible that this has happened to him, and I feel like such an a-hole for even worrying about my surgery with what he's going through. Jeez, why can't anything just be easy for once?

I am so sorry. I absolutely think your feelings are normal. I hope everything works out so you don't have to reschedule your surgery or at the very least not for very long. Prayers for you and your husband.

I think and believe it's still possible for you to have your surgery too. Even though you'll be in the hospital for a day or two, maybe he can have what he needs nearby during that time. I'm sure he'll be able to get around with crutches maybe??? As for you, by the time your out of the hospital, you'll be walking around plenty. You'll be limited to what you can carry, etc, but I really do think it's possible for both of you to get fixed up. Have faith and hope hon that it all works out just fine.

And if you have any family around to help, that's even better. 😊

Btw...not selfish at all. You've been working for this for some time, it's time to take care of you too.

I would plan to reschedule at least a month out. He needs to be able to take care of himself while you are in the hospital and recovering at home.

You nor husband didn't anticipate this was going to happen so that being said you should not feel ashamed. It will work itself out the important thing is that you guys are going through this together. Like your vows said for better or worse. Keep each other heads up and prayers air bound it will be fine.

If it's not a money issue with both of you being out of work. I think of you habe someone who can help out a little for a week or so with driving to appt You can go to the store and stock up on groceries and Protein Shakes etc. It may still be possible. If not maybe push it back a month. My surgeon actually took a month off whenI would've had surgery so I was pushed to May 31. But it'll get there eventually. Good luck and its normal to be upset. You're not selfish.

Thanks to all for the encouragement, I felt so bad yesterday for focusing on myself, even if it was in my own mind! I'm not going to decide about postponing until we see the orthopedic surgeon. I'm more concerned about my husband than me, because I don't know what the long term will bring for him in terms of being able to walk without pain and a limp, so I want to make sure his recovery comes first. The swelling is so awful in that foot that I'm not sure if they can even do any surgery until the swelling decreases some. Out of all the things he could have broken, that is probably one of the worst case scenarios.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
