Two week liquid diet troubles

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I had a rough night on my 3rd night of my 2 week liquid diet. Been feeling good during the day but only getting around 360 calories a day and having trouble getting in all 64 oz of Water. Maybe that's why. I constantly have to get up to use the bathroom due to so much water intake. Last night around 3am I was wide awake. Went to bathroom then started to feel nervous and anxious. Then I became dizzy and hot so I went to the door to get some fresh, cool air and next thing I remember was my husband picking me up off the floor. I had fainted. I don't know if it's my nutrients, if I'm dehydrated, or something else. Maybe blood sugar. What did you eat during the day on the liquid diet and how much? I know I need to do at least 500 in my program, to shrink my liver. But I haven't been that hungry. Have you ever heard of anyone feeling that way and passing out? It's making me question all this. And if I will be able to get the nutrients and water I will need after surgery.

After I woke I was in a cold sweat but felt better. I drank a Protein Shake and more Water. I feel ok today. A little dizzy but not bad. And my head hurts from when I fell. Otherwise I think I'm ok so far. Going to try and take in more Protein and water today. I hope that's all it is. It just really scared me.

Sounds like you're dehydrated. When you feel dizzy or lightheaded, try eating a little salt or take a sip of regular Gatorade, not sugar-free. This is what I do (per my doc's recommendation) and it definitely helps.

The liquid diet makes me feel very light headed too. I am towards the end of.my second week, but walked to the park with my hubby and 3 year old son and nearly fainted. I would say that its either sodium levels or my body dealing with so little food. I came home and had a berocca performance and that set me straight. Be particularly careful when you wake up during the night and if you start to feel light headed get down on the floor and crawl back to bed if necessary. It might not stop you fainting, but it will stop the risk of injury from potentially falling into a door frame or onto the floor if you do faint.

@Okie75. Sorry you're having a hard time on the liquid diet. It sounds like you're not getting enough Protein. My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 30th. I started liquid diet on May 16th ( 6th day) and it's been amazingly easy.

I'm drinking at least 5 shakes and eating sugar free Snacks (e.g., pudding, Jell-O) or Dannon Light/ Fit Yogurt. I start drinking 6:30AM and end about 9:00PM. If I get hungry, I eat a Jell-O. As of yesterday, I'm down 7lbs. I'm drinking the Premier Protein (30g) or Atkins (15g).

Good luck!!

Thank you everyone! I was told 3rd day of liquid diet is hard. 3rd night is no joke either! I slept well the next night, doing great since. I've upped my Protein and try to have a sugar free popcicle or sugar free Jello every 2 hours or so and that helps. I think it was also my body saying, "What the heck!" I'm keeping an eye on my blood pressure as well. I really appreciate the comments. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I had never passed out before, and that was scary. Thanks again!

I'm drinking a shake or eating every 2 to 3 hours so I won't get hungry. Ensure you DRINK the Water too. I'm in the restroom every 15 minutes! It's tiresome, but we HAVE to ensure no complications.

I'm on day 5 of my 7 day pre-op liquid diet and day 3 was absolutely the hardest for me. I've been weak more than anything. The Protein Shakes do seem to perk me up though so that helps. I also have been using peach tea crystal light in my Water to help me get the 100oz of water that my dr. requires. Hang in there! Every day I wake up and tell myself "I can do hard things" and aren't we all proving to ourselves and those around us exactly what we are made of?! This is a marathon not a sprint... Hang in there, you got this!

I started having dizzy spells when I was on liquids post surgery. My nutritionist had said Propel drinks were ok at this stage so I would drink at least a cup when I woke up in the mornings which helped. It's not a pleasant feeling but just make sure you're getting the recommended amounts of Protein and Water.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
