Does anyone else have weird band related dreams or nightmares?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I wanted to find out if I was the only one having these dreams. I have two that I seem to have at least once a week. Before banding, I was a soda addict, and I haven't had a drop since surgery, I'm too scared it will hurt (plus I don't NEED soda anymore). Well, I keep having dreams where I see a big glass and just grab it and down it and end up on the floor writhing in enormous pain. The other one I have is where I just pig out on a big bowl of spaghetti and then feel horrible pain as the past swells in my pouch. My boyfriend thinks it's hilarious that I have nightmares now about things I used to love. Does anyone else have dreams like this?

I've never had a dream about my band, but in my first couple of years, every time I flipped over or rolled around in the bed, I always wondered if I'd just ripped my tube from my port, LOL. It's still attached, so it must be sewn in pretty well...way to go Dr T.

I haven't had it with the band, probably because I'm on no 'diet'..

But when I did Atkins, I did it SO GOOD and to the t.. less than 5g of carbs a day for months.. I had nightmares ALL THE TIME that I ate like a pizza, or a donut, etc. And I would wake up nearly in tears thinking I ruined everything.

When i had to do revision surgery to my port, i did it with only local anesthesia so i still remember how horrid the tweaser felt inside my belly and against the flesh. After that i kept having nightmares about the tweasers and belly getting cut x_x It was horrible!

Sometimes i do get nightmares that i had complications with the lapband and that i need to have it removed.

It is normal for people who are in "recovery" from addictions to have dreams about their addictions and additive behaviors. At times the dreams can be so vivid you feel like you just did what ever the addiction was. The name for it is Post Acute Withdrawal Syndromes, otherwise known as PAWS. It will improve with time.

Hahaha. I had a dream last week that I was eating french fries and looked down to see I'd eaten half a grilled chicken sandwich. I freaked out in my dream, "I wasn't supposed to eat that yet!!!!". I still think it's funny that I dream about food now.

Hi,

I'm not banded yet (Nov 9, 2007) and I have them almost every night. I'm also in recovery for 11 years and still have "using" dreams quite frequently. It's amazing how the mind works - weird! Trying to quit smoking with the patch - even more dreaming! But, patch dreams are fun!

Since my surgery on Sept 5, I have had dreams about snakes. Every. Single. Night.

I don't even normally remember my dreams and this is really beginning to freak me out. I'm not superstitious or anything, but really - It's kinda weird. Sometimes I am fighting them off, other times they win and bit me.

But, not really about food...although I'm not sure which would be worse! lol

Anxiety manifests itself in dreams quite easily. I think the posts above point to a lot of that - anxiety about doing things right, one's ability to be a success with the band, etc.

It will get better as you live with it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
