If I choose not to tell anyone at work is there any way they can find out from my health insurance (that they pay for ) what I had done ? My plan is just to take a leave of absence .

What @Walter.Sobchak says. They have no right to know, and if they try to press them for information, I'd recommend reporting it to HR.

HR will know due paperwork explaining the leave but it should stop there.

I'm just taking a personal leave of a abcence. , unpaid . So my question is , would my insurance company send any paperwork to my job.

Walter.Sobchak's answer is spot on. So in short, no, your insurance company cannot tell your employer what (if any) procedures you had done. That is, as long as you do not work for a health insurance company...

HIPPA violation.
No one can access your medical records but you.

The Leave forms are to be completed by the doctor. They cannot ask what the surgery is, but will ask general questions as it pertains to your ability to do your job. Again, HIPPA laws.

The leave paperwork if you're using short-term disability for FMLA it requires the reason. Yes it's completed by the doctor submitted to your work.

At my work, paid short-term disability is approved and managed by a separate company, so the paperwork the doctor signs goes directly to them, not to my employer. For unpaid leave, the signed paperwork from the doctor goes to someone in Benefits, not to HR or my supervisor.

Every company is different.

Yes. Each company is different but even if you provide your HR or benefits details they are bound by HIPPA and confidentiality.

If you take personal time/vacation instead of medical leave, you can avoid the FMLA and disability forms that require disclosure.

If you are using company sponsored insurance they will get claims data that shows the plan paid for Bariatric surgery. The claims data will not have your name attached, but your company will know that someone had the procedure. If you are at a small employer HR may be able to guess...larger company's maybe not.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
