Did anyone receive a card to order from kid menu?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone received a card stating you had WLS and that you should/could order from kids menu? If so, when did you get it?

Yes pre op. Never used it or know where it is tho lol. Nothing on kids menu is usually WLS friendly IMHO besides portion size *sometimes*

We had a group meeting before surgery where they gave us the cards. What most people have said is that if a restaurant allows you to order from the kids menu then they don't care about the card. Places that don't allow that tend to not care that you have a card because it isn't something that they allow. Personally I don't tell people about my surgery so I wouldn't use the card. I order a meal and take my leftovers home for another meal (usually two or three).

I have one. I have never used it. I'm an adult, sitting at a restaurant taking up the time and space that another paying customer could be taking up. It is bad enough I don't drink alcohol, I'm not going to short them on the food profit too.

Almost everything on the average kids menu in america is trash I wouldn't even fee my dog let alone eat myself or give to a kid. chicken nuggets, Mac and cheese and other crap. Kids are as fat as everyone else, actually fatter, their menus are awful and contain nothing a post-op patient should be eating.

You are better off just ordering appetizers or a light plate.

I received one for my Lap Band, but not for my VSG. I never really even thought about it because as others point out it is up to the restaurant anyway.

It's a dumb idea, like someone said the food on a kid's menu is not downsized adult food it is garbage food.

I never received one and I've never had an issue ordering food from the kids menu the few times they had something worth eating. Mostly I get appetizers or ask if they do half plates. A lot of restaurants do if you ask.

I never received a card but have only ordered off the kids menu once. I called ahead first though so as not to be embarrassed in the restaurant if they didn't allow it. It was at Bertucci's since almost everything there is 800 calories or more. They had a grilled chicken breast with broccoli for only 190 calories on the kids menu. Thankfully they had no problem with me ordering it.

I too am an adult, I do not drink alcohol, do I feel as if "I short them"....NEVER. If chose to order off a kids menu, would I feel that "I short them", not at all. I feel that is depends on the type restaurant re:quality of food on menus and not a fast food type restaurant with poor choices.

I just ask to have them wrap up the food I didn't eat... I don't think I would be comfortable eating from the kid's menu

Well no nice restaurant has a kids menu because nice restaurants do not expect children to be dining during dinner hours. If you are at an actual upscale restaurant, the portions are normal to small anyway, so unless you are under 6 months post-op needing a smaller portion is a non issue.

Only fast casual and family restaurants have kids menus.

I understand restaurant table turnover and I feel like if I enjoy and establishment and want them to be around I should support them. Margins in food are razor thin. Also even though I might not order a full tab, I still tip my server like I did. Although now at this point post-op is a non issue, I can order like a normal person.

I didn't get one and honestly I'd rather just order a normal meal and then have leftovers for a few days. I'm not huge on cooking (trying to work on that) so leftovers are fine with me. Lol

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
