Just curious if anyone is eating fruit? We're entering the summer months when the fruit is plentiful and delicious. I'm 10 months post op and have only had a few very small bites of apple a couple of times and seemed to handle it well. Is anyone eating fruit? How is it working for you? Still losing weight? Would love some opinions..........

Personally I wouldn't have fruits that late out.

Though, there are some fruits with Fiber in it to reduce the impact the carbs have. So long as you don't touch fruit juices.

Fruits were a type of food I loved, it's unfortunate that most are just too carb laden.

Whether or not you worry a lot about carbs depends on your program, but as far as being tolerable for WLS folk, most fruits are good according to my program. So far I've had apples, strawberries, and bananas. Be careful with peels/skins and seeds and chew well, that would be my only other advice.

It depend on your body and what your dietitian says to you. For me I can't consume much at all because carbs are a no-no for me.

I eat fruit and still lose weight. I do not count carbs though. It depends on what your diet is. If you have a carb restriction than fruit would not be recommended but if you are not counting carbs like me, than fruit is a good snack. I have not had any trouble eating fruit either. Especially 10 months out. I am almost a year out now (May 29th is my surgiversary).

I was diabetic for years before surgery so I didn't eat fruit.

I still don't eat fruit. The odd strawberry if it comes as a garnish with brunch, and a bite of pear at Christmas.

I went without fruit for so long before of my diabetes it is not something I miss or even think about really.

I already eat all day to get my Protein in. I don't have the time or room to add in fruit, and it would have to be paired with a protein to make it work for my diet.

My nutritionist told me not to worry about the sugar in fruit so long as I don't over indulge.

That said, I only eat it when someone else has it around, like a bowl of grapes on the counter.

I'll probably eat more of it in the summer. Frozen berries and Protein Powder or milk, for instance. Perhaps some type of fruit smoothie, which I've never been good at making.

I really try to put fruit in my body every day. The sugar in an apple or a strawberry is not the same thing as the snickers or a Coke. My body needs these nutrients and I find I actually lose more weight when I eat more real organic food, especially fruits and nuts.

What about watermelon? Are we supposed to eat that? I love watermelon and it's getting to be that season! Does anyone know?

I am 10 months out and I eat fruit almost daily, but I try to keep it around one portion and earlier in the day. For example, a fresh peach with a couple spoons of low fat cottage cheese was my lunch today. I don't eat canned fruits. I try to eat fresh or frozen. So far, it has not harmed my weight loss or anything.

I enjoy fruit with 2-3 of my meals per day. My focus is lean Protein, vegetables and fruit. I eat some whole grains each day too. I worried fruit would trigger my sugar addict. There is a bit of that, but with focus on protein and the Portion Control my sleeve provides I'm enjoying fruit without over doing it. I weigh, measure and track everything.

I avoided most fruit while I was losing. I've been at goal for three years now and have fruit almost daily. I try to do it with Protein like berries on my Greek yogurt or Peanut Butter on apple slices or banana in my Protein Shake.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
