I had my surgery May 1st I had a gastric bypass as well. I to am actually hungry. I found that surprising I thought after surgery I wouldn't want food. I have been doing very well getting my liquid intake in I am still having pain so still taking my pain meds which I worry if I should not be taking them at this point? But from reading it looks like our mind is playing tricks on us. Our bodies are not hungry but our brain is telling us we need to eat. I also wondered if this was normal and who else has the same issue?
But your not alone on that end of feeling hungry as well.

Hi new. I had my bypass on 5/1 and after about 3-4 days I seriously thought I was hungry. I was glued to cooking shows and Facebook food tutorials and craving everything in sight. I finally realized that it was all head hunger. I was taking sips of Water because anything bigger made me too full, yet somehow I was hungry? No way.

Not saying this is the same for you, but it was definitely my realization. Make sure you are taking a PPI as well!

Good luck and keep me posted on your progress! Love talking with people who had my surgery date.

So glad I'm not the only one who watches this stuff! It's almost like an addiction... I can't stop! I keep telling everyone I'm going to become a food snob now from having so little space in my tummy and watching these shows.

I'm almost 4 weeks post Bypass and have not been experiencing any hunger issues, just the opposite actually. Months before surgery I gave up many things (e.g. alcohol, sweets, carbonated beverages, processed food...), which was difficult for the first few weeks but it helped curb cravings and start weight loss. This may be why post- surgery has been fairly easy thus far for me.

Suggestions on "hunger" are to make sure you're getting enough fluids in each day and to take PPIs for a period of time after surgery (work with doc on exact dosage and timeframe).

Good luck!

I love me some meat. But it seems like I get full off everything, including just chewing gum. I crave meat but I can be full for an hour or two off of some juice and not worry about meat much, although I want to eat some.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
