My Surgeon pissed me off!

Recommended Posts

I went to my surgeon yesterday; I had my 1 month after fill appointment (gimme a break!) Good news; I lost another 5 pounds (and that's with PMS!!) I was actually SO excited to hear the news - I really was! I am getting compliments all the time at work. My Dad even said "Hey Skinny" - made me feel good. I had asked the surgeon about my chart. I wanted to know what my starting BMI was. And like a lightening rod and in one breath he shrieked out "You started at 45 BMI, you're at 37 BMI now. BUT YOU ARE STILL MORBIDLY OBESE". Ya know….jerk - talk about stealing my thunder! Let me enjoy the 5 pound loss! Let me appreciate the fact that I'm brining my BMI DOWN. No need to remind me of what I am. I KNOW I have more weight to loose. So insensitive. Needless to say; he was MORE THAN HAPPY to have me schedule my next adjustment. At this point, I'll be down to adjusting with tiny amounts to get to the sweet spot. (at least I hope).

<p>Morbidly obese is a BMI of 40 or greater. Obese is 30 - 40. I know it sucks for him to have burst your bubble like that. Just don't take it personally. DOctors tend to be extremely matter of fact, and what he said was very matter of fact (although arguably wrong). :)

Sherilynn - congratulations on your 5 pound loss! I see that you have 10.2ccs in your band now -- are you completely filled? I have a 10cc band and didn't feel much restriction until I was completely filled.

Some doctors don't have a great bedside manner, and it's a shame he couldn't have used positive reinforcement. It's nice to compare the before, during and after BMI and see the progress we're making.

I had a wake up call the other day. A friend told me she had a really good picture she took of me at a party we went to. When she gave it to me, I was shocked -- I still looked soooooo fat! In my mind, although I still have a lot to lose, I thought I looked at lot better - that photo got me back on track, realizing that I still have a long way to go!

I am 'completely' filled; if you go by the books - as per my surgeon. But from what I understand, the 10CC band can hold more than that. And that's where I'm headed - on Oct. 25 - I will have another fill. And I really think/hope this will 'do it' for me. Still my restriction varies so much - I want that to stop. I don't know if I'll get what I want, however.

I was just going to ask what constitutes "morbidly obese", because a 37 doesn't really seem "morbid" if you know what I mean.

Ignore him. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

I wish I could. It's been 4 days - and I still can't get his voice out of my head. And I know I have to - soon. He just made me (I let him) feel so low. OK - I'M OFFICIALLY OVER HIM.

Thankfully, in his practice - he did my surgery and does my follow up visits. It's his partner who does my fills. Honestly though - that guy isn't much better with his comments. He's the guy who told me at my last fill "You're really on the slow end of the loosing. Maybe it's time to consider the bypass". It took me a few days to get over that comment also.

IIIIIIIIII feel good about what I've accomplished. True; it's not a FAST process for me. True, I'm not yet at a 'healthy' BMI. But - damn it; I FEEL GOOD.

Ok Dr. A and Dr. B - BITE ME! :heh:

I can so relate to your experience Sherilynn. Sometime after I was banded(don't remember exactly how long)I got sick and went to the Dr. I know I was down 63lbs at the time. The first the jerk did when he looked at my chart was to say "you have to do something about your weight missy!" I was about to let him have it when my husband suggested he look back on the chart....well...we know we are doing good...keep up the good work honey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
