I would feel better if I was at 70-75g. I don't want to lose too much muscle.

You can do it!

Wow 5"7 sounds like me growing up. I was always one of the tallest girls in my class.

My dh and I have been empty nesters for many years now, but I am so blessed to have my grandchildren living so close. They are only 6 minutes away by car.

listening to yours and newme17 stories about your children brings back so many memories.

Sorry for the late posting but yes she is the tallest. I swear i don't where she puts the food but she got the longest legs and she is stretched out. She don't even fit in the bed cause she sleeps all over it.

And she's 12? Wow. It seems the age...my step daughter has always been thin, but now she's stick thin, long and lanky like. It's amazing what she can eat. Even before surgery she still ate more than me. Don't know where it all goes. lol

Oh yes!!!! My daughter has always been tall for her age her legs got longer and body got thinner. Like feeding a baby dinosaur really. Lol. Growth spurts. Smh

Good morning @Sweet as peaches. Thank you for always posting such encouraging words.

Today is a much easier day at work. All the emails are caught up so I have some time to check in. Today will be my first lunch outing with co-workers. We are having a going away party for one of my students leaving for grad school. I will order Soup and hopefully nobody notices how little I am eating.

Good morning everyone. I'm still at my appt airing for the next phase. I just had a great conversation with my nut. She's awesome. I told her my frustrations with the whole carb thing. 😂 Thankfully she isn't about no carbs. She wants me to have complex carbs. Doesn't want me to count but have an idea based on how I'm feeling doing, what Protein, carbs, and fats I'm having daily. She's put a lot of trust in me, simply because I used to study nutrition in college. I was studying to become a nutritionist, lol. Go figure!!!!! I didn't finish it though, decided to work in accounting. I still have that knowledge but didn't put it to use the past 8 years or so.

As for exercise, she wants me to do interval cardio. Nothing high intensity now, still healing but when walking, walk faster for three mins, then walk slow for a few mins. Keep repeating that. That'll help keep my muscle cause I'm pretty sure I lost some.

Oh, here's the exciting part. I'm down 14 pounds since surgery (and that's starting my menstrual yesterday!). I now weigh 230. My starting weight was 258. So a total of 28 lbs down. My highest ever was 266, but I managed to lose 8 lbs in like a year, lol, before I started this journey.

Funny thing is, it's great the weight I lost, but I haven't really put much emphasis on he number, I'm just glad that my clothes are getting lose and I'm finally walking a bunch more. So glad I did this. I'm so glad. 😁

I'm assuming they don't know. 😊 I'm sure it wouldn't be noticed. Besides, you can always say you're not that hungry now.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
