Weigh vs measure... I was under the impression that we should just measure out 2 ounces of food by volume in the little medicine cups not weight- is that accurate? I thought it was the size that mattered . ??

Totally agree with Apple1 on this one, makes sense to me. But also, however you're apt to do it and be successful with it is just fine too. :) Nice to hear from ya hon!

Definitely start weighing your food if it will help solve that issue with one bite too many. I think this is a constant learning situation for a while. I had an experience on Monday where I almost vomited for the first time because I ate too much salad. I had weighed it out, but I guess when it comes to salad 3ozis too much. I was eating too fast or I probably would have noticed I was getting full.

Are you tired because you worked out or had a rough day at work? Maybe up your Protein a little bit and see if that helps?

I sure hope you feel better tomorrow.

Thanks. I'll whip out my scale and start using it. I kind of miss my warning burp, but I'm actually glad to not be burping all the time either...not so lady like at times. LOL

I think I was tired because of the workout, then all the errands, then taking my daughter to swim (out in the spoiling heat). Funny thing is, as tired as I was, I couldn't go to sleep (huge mistake of drinking some green tea yesterday eve). I looked at my Protein yesterday and it was kind of low too, so it's a combo of everything that got me good yesterday. Today is much better..so far, but the day hasn't really kicked off (usually happens after work). So, we shall see.

So tonight I went out to dinner with hubby and inlaws to longhorn. I asked my surgeon about steak and he said give it a go. I had the filet and ate less than half of a 6 oz steak. Delicious! And set well. I also had a few bites of a sweet potato. Set well but I think it triggered wanting to eat more because I've been wanting to munch all night- anyone know what I'm talking about? Especially something sweet. I think restaurants may need to be off of my menu for awhile. Triggered head hunger!

I do know if I decide to eat Pork rinds, which I did, but didn't get very far, I almost instantly wanted to munch on something else. Even though the rinds aren't "carb-y", my body responded to them as if they were chips, I guess. I do eat sweet potatoes, but don't get that way with them. So, yeah, I think I get you. 😊 Glad you had success with the steak. Even though I haven't been eating meat, it sounds yummy! Lol

I should probably be asleep, just so I can be well rested before the four year old wakes me up with a Breakfast demand. But first, today's menu was pretty good. I actually went over Protein, which I wasn't trying to do. I made scrambled eggs with veggies for dinner. Threw some salsa verde and a little cheese...yum. So I weighed 4oz even though I knew I wasn't going to eat it all. Threw some cheese, made is 4.7 oz. Goodness, it was too much! I weighed what was left, 1.8 ounces, so I had 2.9 oz for dinner. I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Still don't like my warning burp being gone. 😕

So, goodnight! I'll check back in manana!!

You are right in that it was probably head hunger. I had a little of that at first, but it seems to have gone away. I think the longer you go without eating carbs, sugar, whatever your craving, the desire just goes away. I feel so much more in control of food now.

I can eat steak also just fine, but I am trying to limit red meat to two servings a month. I think some of us just heal faster because honestly I haven't had a problem eating anything as long as I eat slow and chew well. One thing I have noticed about restaurant food is the sodium levels are high. You may hold onto some Water weight for a day or two after eating if that was the case. I still eat out occasionally and I haven't had a problem finding healthy selections.

I was "hangry" all day yesterday. We use this term for how you feel after working out. I snacked a little more than usual, but I did keep it healthy. I think some days our bodies just need a little more fuel and as long as we don't go crazy we will be fine.

I love making a eggs for dinner. I often do just what you did and throw in a lot of veggies and cheese...yum.

Eggs sit heavy on my stomach and I can only eat about 3 oz also. Great job @Newme17 with weighing. I think sometimes our eyes are still bigger than our stomachs...literally..lol

My grandson spent the night last night and he kept me busy. We played hide-n-seek with all the lights off... lol.. it was fun. We have a spare bedroom right across the hall from ours, but he preferred to camp out on the floor of ours.. I was stepping over him this morning.. My grand kids keep me young and I love them. I feel blessed to have them living so close.

Thank you for the "great job" I appreciate it. I'll be sure to start using it more, daily...got to make it a habit.

I used to play with all the lights off with my 3 brothers and sister when my parents would be out. It was a lot of fun, I'm sure you did have fun. My house is so little now, there's no where to really hide. LOL But I wouldn't mind doing it again some day.

I almost wanted to put, "I can't wait till I have grandkids" but I thought about it and decided, NO. I can wait!!! But when the time comes, I'm sure I'll enjoy them.

When my kids were the ages of yours I wasn't even thinking about grand kids yet. It doesn't really seem all that long ago really.. the years have flown by...

Grand kids make you think about all the things you wish you had taken the time to do with your own kids. It is almost like a chance to do better. They are the best bonus to having kids. They have taught me that taking time out to play and just be silly is good for the soul.

We are off to church. Have a great Saturday everyone.

Good morning ya'll!

It's a beautiful TOO HOT day here in south Texas. I don't really have much to do either, which is NICE. I mean, the usual things, clean the house, etc., I'm sure I'll make myself busy today. The kitchen still needs some finishing touches...my husband and I are planning on working on that later. I do have to run an errand today, but I don't want to take all three of my kids to do a quick run in. I'll wait till my hubby's home from work. The kids are busy, one is watching Netflix, the other reading her bible on her phone. The oldest, still asleep.

I plan to get to the gym later, probably tonight. I was looking at my arms and they're indeed getting flabby. :( But I'm not too concerned about them, I'm just hoping my skin kind of bounces back a bit after a year or two. I still have more fat to rid of and muscle to gain, so in time...besides it's only been 3 months, still a long ways to go.

Ooh, I have noticed more hair than usual in the shower these days....again, not too concerned. I have lots of hair and it won't do too much damage I hope. Anyone else start the losing hair deal?

I noticed my parents are way more loving/different to theirs than with us!!! LOL They were not perfect, and so I agree with this. :)

I weighed this morning and wasn't any heavier so that was good - I ended up eating a snack bag if cheetos and a piece of lo sugar banana bread so I did awful. But kept my calories around 1000- highest yet. I'm on the wagon today though. Thanks for the encouragement

Those cheetos will get ya! BUT, it's great that your recognize it. I did have a few doritos the other day. So I'm totally not judging. 😊 My doc says it's very hard to mess up the sleeve in the beginning. We're basically in a grace period, but if we make it a habit again, then it won't be so graceful anymore. I plan to stay in grace.

The grace also shows us losing the weight even while still making bad choices, another BUT....which makes some people believe they can continue on that way, until it hits them at maintenance. The only exception, is it you're physically active where you're constantly burning those cals off. That's where I plan to be..not so I can eat junk, but so I can enjoy life and have something "bad" in moderation. The longer I go on my plant based (which is now my new lifestyle diet) I don't crave those things anymore anyway, so it's easy to bypass and say no. I think I have a more of a problem two days before menstruals...when my hormones skyrocket causing my body to want to munch. I'll take two days of fighting against it than the rest of my life! 😊

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
