I am currently monitoring my macronutrients on myfitnesspal. I'm able to get the correct amount of Protein. I am finding it hard to make sure I get under the fat and carb goals. I think it may be due to the fact that besides eating veggies, alot of Beans and legumes contain carbs as well? We usually eat tofu, tempeh, black beans, and chickpeas consistently every week. And have the occasional sweety potato so they are better sources of carbs.

I understand I will have to cut back even more on bread, Pasta, and those types of carbs. That won't be hard for me. I eat hot dogs and burgers without Buns.

I found an extensive list of vegan protein products and how much is in each. I still feel like I need a list of vegan Proteins including carbs and fat in each product.

I am also on 1500 calorie diet right now. After wls I'll be on 1200 so maybe having even smaller portions will fix this problem?

Did anyone else have this issue? And does anyone have a comprehensive list of vegan protein sources with the gms of proteins, carbs, and fat in each?

How many carbs are you allotted per day? Who prescribed that amount? My doc only asked that I focus on grams of Protein (60), which is a modest #, based on what I've seen others post here.

I highly recommend the book called "Proteinaholic" by (bariatric surgeon) Dr. Garth Davis. Dr. Davis is also very active on his FB page and happy to answer questions there.

"A Pound of Cure" by (bariatric surgeon) Dr. Matthew Weiner is a good read, too. Dr. Weiner also has many lectures available on Youtube.

1200 calories, 75 to 80 gm of Protein. 100 or less gm carbs, fat is 25 to 30 I think. I have heard of Dr. Davis because of his association with other vegan,/vegetarian doctors. I haven't read his book yet tho. Does he specifically talk about wls patients and protein or the average person and protein? I will definitely look into it. I've never heard of Dr. Weiner. I will look him up. I tried to do 1200 calories but i was lethargic and couldn't do anything but sleep. And I ate tons of veggies. My dietician said I should do that now so I can go back to it later. The problem with that is my metabolism is already slow as it is because I have chronic back pain and haven't been able to work at all. I actually just filled for disability. Anyways, I'm still constantly hungry on this 1500 calorie diet. Atleast I'm not as lethargic. Thank you for your advice

I am two years out. Since the beginning, I never counted anything other than Protein and Water ounces. My bariatric program didn't give a rat's patooty about carbs or fat grams. They didn't require me to count calories or track.

Their theory: if you exceed 80+ grams of protein and 64+ ounces of water post-op, you will not have enough room to eat that many grams of carbs or fat in the first place. Therefore, there's no need to count the other macros.

To this day, I still don't count carbs or fat. Also, cutting back on fat is misguided because dietary fat is not what makes us fat. Actually, fat is satiating and satisfying, causing us to eat less than we normally would have.

I think Dr Matthew Weiner can help you.

I went pescetarian for 6 weeks and it was terrible. I was hungry all the time, my carbs were higher than normal, weight loss stalled and I was overall miserable. I can't imagine doing this as a vegan or a vegetarian. I went pescetarian because I was playing with the idea of going vegetarian, but those 6 weeks convinced me it is impossible for me to do.

There was one vegetarian that post here. They don't post often and never got anywhere near goal. They could tell you what Proteins are okay but I haven't seen them in months.

FWIW, there are several active FB pages geared towards plant-based dieters who have undergone WLS. Also, Dr. Garth Davis prescribes a plant-based diet for his patients and he posts many before/after pictures on his FB page.

I wouldn't necessarily base the idea of success for those who follow a plant-based diet on the number of active plant-based posters here. I didn't post here much at first, due to the lack of veg posts when I signed up, but have found other ways to give & receive support here.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
