Might be a weird question....

It can depend on your insurance. Some require 6 months supervised "dieting". Mine didn't but I dragged my feet a little. Since I didn't have a cardiologist, pulmonary MD and GI doc, I had to get appointments. Sometimes a first MD visit takes awhile since you are a new patient. My first visit with the surgeon was in October and the surgery was in March.

I can't help with you that... My insurance paid 100%. Best of luck, you won't regret it

Yes, I guess they would rather pay when you get sick due to being overweight... it is a shame

When they receive your medical history and you pay your surgery amount you can decide when you want surgery. Depepending on your BMI would determine the length of you pre-op diet. If I had paid immediately I still had a 10 day pre-op. With BariatricPal you have a year to complete paying for your surgery. You do have to have completely paid before your surgery date. This is how it relates to BariatricPal. I am sure all the TJ Baritastic centers are similar. Hope this give an idea.

I submitted my history and got approved in February... I would have gone in March (about 3 1/2 weeks after I paid my deposit) if I knew my passport was going to get here as fast as it did but because I wasn't aware it would only take 3 weeks I had to wait a bit due to work trips so I will be going in May. How quick depends on your schedule, the surgeons schedule (which most Mexico doctors are pretty open), surgeon's preop (most require 2 weeks low carb high Protein but with a low BMI you may not have one) and how soon you can get a flight and the surgery amount.

I scheduled mine for about 6 weeks out. That gave me enough time to get my passport (can take up to 6-8 weeks), airplane tickets, prepare myself and family, do the preop diet, get a few preop tests through my family doctor (not required), and really just wrap my brain around everything.

My jobs insurence won't cover anything to do with weightloss.. it's a shame..

Either will mine! It's a total scam, honestly. Because insurance companies would come out on top if their subscribers were healthier, IMHO. Of course there is the initial investment of the actual surgery, but the ROI is huge in comparison, IMHO.

Anyway, my date is May 25th with Dr. Illan!

When is your date?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
