Re-Sleeve with Fundectomy

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the gastric sleeve a 2nd time? I go on April 25th to be re-sleeved and have what is called a fundectomy. I am just wondering if anyone else has done this so I know what to expect. From what I hear from the doctor it should be just like the first time I had the sleeve surgery.

For those curious, I had the surgery almost three years ago and was self-pay. The process went extremely fast and before I knew it, I was having the surgery. (The whole process took like 4 weeks since I was self pay.) Turns out I wasn't prepared for the surgery and didn't do very well long term. I didn't utilize the nutritionist or therapy and I am back to where I was pre-surgery.

This time around I have done all the necessary steps to prepare myself for this life change and fell that I am ready to do this again and be successful!

Just wondering if anyone else has has had this done? Please no negative comments!

Good luck!

I am curious was your sleeve stretched or the surgery was done incorrectly? Do you have acid reflux now?

may I ask how did you know it stretched? I only ask bc I've always felt (all along) that I'm able to eat too much of anything @ one sitting... good luck to you!

My doctor did the EDG and saw it had stretched.

I had no idea re sleeving was even possible!

Sounds to me like it was done incorrectly the first time, as usually the fundus is removed during a correctly done VSG.

So, did they take 80-85% of your stomach the first time? So now they are cutting even more? This is fascinating to me!

I honestly don't know how that is physically possible. But her fundus wasn't removed, so it probably stretched some I suppose.

A correctly done VSG should not really stretch. Heal up and the piloric valve relaxes, sure. But stretching back to original size? Impossible.

The first time was a band to sleeve revision and I had so much scar tissue that I don't think the dr was able to remove as much as my stomach. I am using the same doctor and he is going back in to resleeve and do the fundus.

I just cringed when I read this! Why would you trust the same surgeon? Also, you do realize your risk for complications was increased significantlyas this is your third wls and second revision. Furthermore with a tighter sleeve your far more prone to gerd, strictures and gastric torsion. Is it really worth it? Anyway, hope your okay post op

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
