Well, my first real test of my big Italian family holiday get togethers was a fail. I'm 6 weeks post-op and I gave into my cravings yesterday and today and ate food I shouldn't of. Then I stupidly came home and weighted myself. I gained 2lbs in the past two day. I'm so mad at myself and have just sat here crying. My addiction to food is more powerful then I could of ever imagined.

I doubt you gained 2 lbs because of eating some food you shouldn't have eaten in your opinion on a single occasion.

Food addiction is powerful but I somehow doubt that only food addicts gorge themselves on these occasions, otherwise I would be surrounded by food addicts only.

Get over it, brush it away, get back on your personal plan and forget about it. These things happen and most likely will happen again.

The psych was very clear at my doctor's office. You should aim to be 90% on plan all the time. Having a single meal where you went off plan is not the end of the world, it is enjoying life. Don't let a single indulgence lead to a string of bad choices. You have nothing to be ashamed of!

The reason we fail is because we fail to forgive ourselves. There is not one person here that has not eaten something they aren't supposed to. If there is they will eventually do it.

You did not gain 2 pounds:-). Lol...but it's good you really care. Keep after it. You're doing great!

Okay, so you gave in. That was one meal, on one day. It's up to you whether that's going to be repeated or not! None of us are perfect, and none of us goes through this without a single slip or misstep. The thing that will make us successes or failures is how we react to the misstep. Brush yourself off, get back on plan and the NEXT time you feel like indulging in something that might be a bad idea...you can look back to this and decide if the indulgence is worth the aftermath. I've walked away from quite a few pieces of cake using that mindset :)

Also, don't EVER weigh at the end of the day...I drink an 8 oz glass of Water before bed every night, I'd be crazy to weigh then and consider that my actual weight with a half-pound of water in my stomach! Get up in the morning, use the bathroom, strip and weigh yourself. Then repeat weighing yourself that way as often as works for you. I'm a daily weigher, some prefer weekly, monthly or random days...whatever you choose, do it at the same time of day, wearing the same thing.

You weighed yourself after eating?? That can be Water and food. I weigh myself first thing in the morning after I have eliminated. Weighing at any other time of the day or night does not count.




Yes, IMHO, that is the right time to weigh oneself.

I had a few of those bad days. Let it go. Get back on track. It's a life change and it's super hard. Having a food addiction and giving that up is hard. It's sooo hard. But I love losing weight and getting compliments and buying new clothes. That helps motivate me. But I'm at a month stall and getting nervous.

First off, hang in there and don't beat yourself up.

I would advise you to relax and focus on the great time you just spent with family. This is a big change we are doing, and expectations of perfection and complete denial of our issues aren't lasting strategies, nor wise. We all feel what you experienced after surgery maybe not in the same setting, but we all have our days where we pushed the boundaries. But take comfort in knowing, you are still on the path to recovery from your eating addiction. Of course, we all want to do everything right and stick to the plan, but failing from time to time is part of the path to success.

I admire your willingness to live and then correct your actions. I do not want to be on the eternal diet my whole life, but I do want to improve and change my relationship with food. That by itself is going to be a process of failing and succeeding thousands of times for me.

Every visit to California my food issue are constantly out of control. With a mother who cooks to show her love for me I am not merely battling cravings, but a life of control issues intertwined with food. (And food that I like to eat.) So to imply the answer is as easy as, "just stick to the plan" doesn't seem to fit the magnitude of issues I face there. Maybe someday I will navigate perfectly, but thus far I have yet to measure up.

My last trip I was did ok, had fruit, Cookies, cakes, ice cream, but never over ate like I did before surgery and lost two pounds over a week! (Go figure- I did walk a lot.) I am not bragging, but merely pointing out, I have no idea why I lost. But I know throughout the week, I was not binging and that felt good. And it was a major victory.

Two days and two pounds could be 1000 things, who cares. Just remember, you are still on track to reach your goal weight. Nothing has changed other than the reality of knowing, our issues are still alive and well until we discover how to really deal with them. (As you now know, surgery doesn't do anything to solve our issues, it just gives us a speed bump from over eating, which usually is enough on most days.)

Don't ruin the moment and memories because you love eating great food with family. Enjoy it and you might find it easier to keep in check next time knowing that you aren't cheating, you're simply living.

I bet you have more victories over the weekend that we erased by the scale upon your return, don't cheat yourself.

It never occurred to me not to eat my Easter dinner that I bought and prepared. Over the weekend I went out to dinner & had Easter dinner. I lost 3 pounds. I can only eat a max of 4 tblspns. Max. Even if I ate 4 tblspns of pure sugar I wouldn't gain a pound. I have no guilt. I did not do anything wrong and neither did you. Move forward.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
