Clear liquids tomorrow, then Sleeving on Tuesday

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is almost here! Most people are excited, some nervous, others both. Me well I'm not sure what I am right now. I have had 4 major surgeries in the last two years with lengthy hospital stays. I think being sleeved should be easier as it has been a conscious decision to have this procedure and one I wanted. However I am rethinking things as it seems more people are writing about the severe surgical pain, gas pains that wont go away, the inability to even drink Water, or eat and heartburn that becomes a permanent part of everyday life.

If anyone can give me some good insight it would be greatly appreciated and helpful

My surgery is on Wednesday and I could have written this post myself. I am having second thoughts but then I quickly go to what my life will be like if I didn't have the surgery. I would continue on with yo yo dieting, co-morbidities, and constantly being in pain. I think we are going into this with the right expectations... there will be pain, there may be gas, and we have to learn how to eat all over again and that is half the battle. Try not to let the horror stories scare you because it's all relative. Best of luck to you!

Shy1, Thank you for you reply! Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. I keep having people say if you have been able to loose weight before surgery then why have surgery. Uggg!

I have been worrying about complications post surgery. It may sound silly, but I'm terrified of heart burn. I had severe heart burn during pregnancy and I don't think I want to live with that daily. I try to remind myself the effects of morbid obesity will be worse for me long term. I actually had someone bring up bariatric surgery negatively at a family Easter gathering. She was questioning her friends choice of wanting the surgery since she knew her friend lost 20 pounds on weight watchers. "She should just exercise and eat right since I know she can lose it if she wants to. Seems like the easy way out. " I internally rolled my eyes and said there's nothing easy about surgery. I'm in month 5 of pre op. I haven't told a lot of people yet because I don't ned their negativity. Good luck with your surgery 💜

I had surgery February 27th and don't get me wrong the first month I wondered what the hell I did! I regretted the surgery but now I am able to eat yes only a few bites and yes I get heartburn but I always have antacids with me. We have to take Calcium anyways and the antacids have calcium so I am killing 2 birds with one stone. I can drink Water normally and I am not even 2 months out yet. People are going to have more pain from gas etc. If they don't follow doctors orders and get up and get moving. It really does help. I was off all pain meds except one at night after a week and off everything after 2 weeks. Also in 7 weeks I have lost 42 pounds I would say that is worth it. I no longer have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.

I have my surgery on Tuesday too and I am experiencing the same apprehensions as you. But I am excited for the future. I think the choice I am making will benefit me more than staying the size I am currently despite the rocky road that may lay ahead.

I had surgery last Wednesday and had the same thoughts. I was so excited, but started bawling when my surgeon came to talk to me pre-op. I'm day 5 post op now and easily getting all my fluids in and the heartburn I had before my hernia repair is gone. I'm off all pain meds. I'm sore but feel good.

Hi your story sounds like mine! I was sleeve Feb 20 and still only eating a few spoons of food but that's enough for me I weigh 3 weeks ago and I was down 35 lbs I'm not so worried about the scales I'm watching my clothes and inches disappear! I'm down from a 18 to some 12s now my goal is a 6/8 good luck to both of us!

I would ask this question in "post op" because a lot of people here have not had their surgeries yet, this way you get some great feedback based on their experience!

I think you're going to be okay, and wish you many blessings on your journey :)

I 2nd guessed myself too like 3 days before. I had someone tell me well you've lost 20lbs doing a liquid diet. Why can't you just keep doing that. People that haven't battled with weight don't get it. I just dismissed what they said, although it was very hard not to reply back with a smart mouth remark. I was a tad moody on the liquid only diet for 2 weeks.
I had surgery Thursday and had a WTH did I do moment the day after and another one yesterday but everyone I know that's had this surgery has said it's rough but you will get through it. It just takes time. I'm doing better today then I was yesterday and yesterday day was better than the 2nd day. Just take it slow. Good luck and speedy recovery.

My surgery is tomorrow and I two am having second thoughts. I have been back and forth on it for awhile. I do know I have never kept weight of by myself. And want to once feel comfortable and not sweating just to walk into a room due to being fat and feeling embarrassed. Plus want to be around for my Grandchildren. So I think I just answered my own second thoughts just by writing this.

Good luck to all of you. I am almost a month post op. I'm not gonna say it is a cake walk, but the recovery was physically easier than my 2 csections.
Drinking fluids becomes a daily job, but it's not the worst. You have to listen to your body. If you're tired, make time to rest. You all made a wonderful decision to change your life, fear is natural. Sending you all positive vibes!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
