New to the Site (located in Clemson, SC)

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody!

I'm new to the site. My doctor actually had another patient find the site and that patient talked so highly of it that he sent the link to me. I don't live with or near my family (both my mom and cousin have completed the surgery), so I needed a place where I could receive some support.

I underwent the sugery on Aug. 16th. Surgery weight was 225 (though my top weight was 232). I'm currently at 200.6. According to my height, bone structure, muscle mass, etc., I'm supposed to be at 145; therefore, my goal is 150. I like the round numbers. :-)

I'm the typical beach loving, seafood eating, palm tree hugging, hurricane avoiding, pina colda drinking, Jimmy Buffett singing, cold weather hating, South Florida girl whose been transplanted to South Carolina for grad school. I'm at Clemson University studying for my MBA and my MS in Marketing. Did my undergraduate degree at the University of Miami (FL) in music and theatre. It may sound like a stretch to go from the arts to business but it made sense to me. I love college football (Go Canes and Tigers!), having great conversation with friends, listening to music, anything that challenges me physically and/or mentally, watching and/or producing musical theatre, laughing with/at myself and others (you have to find the humor in life) and bringing joy to those around me.

I hope to find the support I need through the posts I read on the website. Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. Have a wonderful day!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
