My first night (last night) was very rough. Have gas surrounding my ribs and clavicle and my esophagus was swollen. I woke up okay but the nausea kicked in and I struggled most of the night. Then on top of it I take 6 pills in the am and 8 in the pm and they taste horrible crushed!! 😜😣. I know this is so worth it...just rough right now.

I was sleeved on Thursday, 5/4. I came home the next day. I was nervous going in, but it feels really good on the other side. I woke up from the surgery in some discomfort, but once that was managed, it has been pretty smooth sailing. No hunger, no cravings. I cannot even express how freeing that is.

Good luck May sleevers! Can't wait to read about your progress!

I was sleeved on tuesday 5/2 some times I feel a little hungry when I smell food while cooking for the faimly but as soon as I take a few drinks of Water or maybe eat a popcicles I'm not hungry anymore lol

How's it going Jen! I'm feeling better each day. Not really even struggling to get my liquids or shakes in. Tomorrow moving on from all liquid to adding some yogurt.

Hi! I'm doing better, but I am still having pain. Esp. On my belly button incision and left side. I saw the dr. Yesterday and he said it is normal. I finally hit my liquid goal yesterday!!!!! It has been so hard for me.

I did want to ask you if you were still feeling what you thought was hunger? I've started to feel hungry as of yesterday and am concerned. I'm on the acid reducer pill, so don't think it is acid.

How long before you enter the pureed stage?

Hi Jen,

sorry to hear you've been having pain. I didn't have a belly button incision. I have 5, 2 on the sides about an inch higher than my Belly button, then two higher than those and one right between the boobs just below where my bra hits.

We move on to purée weeks 3 and 4. Week 1 is all liquid, and week two you can add yogurt, ricotta, and pudding. I been doling the ricotta watered down a bit with Water and then added a tiny bit of Protein Powder for flavor. Found some Delish ones and have 6 flavors to choose from, which has been really nice.

Im almost worried how easy it is to drink. I can take three regular swallows without any real trouble. I have my f/u tomorrow and will ask if that's ok. My one issue has really been Constipation. I feel fine, but I know I'm not supposed to go 4 days without so I took some Milk of Magnesia today, which I hate.

As for hunger, yes!!!! I've been feeling hunger pangs since day 2. I'm on omeprazole so it isn't acid. I've been taking some of the anti spasm meds, which helps a bit, it it definitely feels like good old fashioned hunger. Kind of a bummer.

AGH! I'm feeling that hunger too... let me know what your doctor tells you. I started feeling them AFTER I saw my dr. (my luck!).

TMI ALERT

Constipation.. oh how I dislike thee! I had that too. I use ALIVE liquid Fiber (tastes good) and 2 stool softeners a day. When that wasn't working, I took 2 more stool softeners and it did the trick, although it lead to diarrhea. But I felt good after that. I think most people battle constipation after surgery. I'm just hoping I can nip it in the bud sooner than later.

Yesterday was the first day I felt like I could take bigger swallows... which is probably how I made my fluids goal. I don't know how people make it taking only sips! Btw, I'm staying up an hour or so after my bedtime to reach the goal. Do you drink any of the sugar free drinks?

I've been drinking regular Water and Propel water(this was on our list of approved things). I make my shakes with 10 oz of liquid (easier for me to track the total doing it in tens). 7 oz cashew milk and three water. That's because when I did all cashew milk it upset my tummy so I'm easing in.
I have Benefiber, I just haven't been good about using it. The thing is, I feel fine. I don't feel like I need to go, bloated, etc. but I know I'm supposed to go so...
BTW, my sleeve was May 2.

Today is better than yesterday. I have been able to get more liquid in and most of the gas in my chest is gone. I am slowly getting there. My husband has been amazing and so supportive since the surgery. Such a blessing. The pain meds are keeping everything tolerable.

I am hoping tomorrow will be better than today. It's been a pretty good day today. I don't have any hunger. My tummy grumbles a little and my senses have changed. I am so not digging the smell of any food lol.

Surgery scheduled for 5/23. Pre-op diet officially starts tomorrow, but I started it last week. I had a few off-plan meals over this past weekend, plus some wine, but I'm back on track today. It just stinks to have to go through the rough first few days again.

I'm scheduled for 5/23 too and just found out today as the insurance approval came in last minute. Good luck to you!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
