I believe it depends on what your insurance requires.
I had my consultation in January, but have to do six months of working with a dietician and office visits and weigh ins.
Surgery won't be until August for me.
It seems like most insurance companies require a six month wait.
I have seen some people posting that they only had to do 3 months.

Thank you so much! GOOD LUCK on your upcoming surgery in August! Were you required to lose weight before surgery? I've heard yes and no..

You are most welcome.
My BMI is currently 56, I just have to get it down under 55
My surgeon and dietician have not given me any specific amount I need to lose.
I am thinking around 10 pounds.
It will come down to what your insurance says and what your surgeon says.
You could call your insurance and ask, or just wait until you meet with the surgeon and his team.
They should be able to give you the specifics.

My first appointment was really long. It was six months ago yesterday. But the clinic I'm going through is great and very thorough. They ran all the pre-op tests and bloodwork including EKG and another that checked for any existing stomach ulcers and stuff. Took a beginning picture and typical weigh in. And x rays.

My insurance required 6 months diet & exercise appointments, which I'm actually thankful for. There's a lot of habits to change for after surgery and I'm grateful the past 6 months (Which flew by) has given me time to learn a lot of things to be successful. I get a surgery date next week! Very excited for you! Best of luck!

I had my consultation on 3/29 and my surgery was scheduled for 5/1. I only needed 30 days with my insurance. I was given a list of things/appointments that I need to compete before the surgery date. If all is complete, my surgery is a go within 33 days of my consultation. The hardest part is scheduling the other Dr appointments within that time restriction.

Also for me, I was not required to diet before hand. I have no required Weightloss before surgery.

I'm becoming more and more happy that my clinic has everything except the xray right there and I didn't have to schedule anything myself except for the psych appointment!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
