Humility and the aftermath. I am left with shame.

Recommended Posts

Many of us posted daily before and after surgery. What was this? What was that? Is this normal? Why am I not losing enough weight? The list is endless, I know I posted, oddly enough about my ass, but I posted a great deal.

Then the party ended. Post op became my life, it was no longer new. I figured out how to eat, avoid getting sick and lost more weight than I had even planned on losing. No posts here. No thanks given for all the wonderful advice.

I feel like a hypocrite I asked so much of this site, then just dropped it as we tend to do in this digital world we live in. What makes this site what it is is the people. The community, the collective understanding. The other voices that let you know you are not alone and you will get through this. I post this humbly, as I ask for forgiveness from the community for not keeping up with my posting. Not helping more people than helped me. In a way, I feel shameful. Shameful for not answering the same questions I asked.

So, to the collective here, I say I am sorry. I will try to be around and post more often, and to help more people.

It can get pretty repetitive, I have only been around a short while myself. There is a wealth of information for people at every stage, and we have many vets to thank for it.

I think that's the reality for a lot of us... life gets in the way however, nice to see you back.

What really gets me is people asking the same things. Also 99% of everything I've read here asking about something was covered by my surgeon's office without me asking. Either some people are not listening or not be told. If they aren't being told, then maybe they need to ask more or find another surgeon for after care.

I think sometimes people need to be reassured.
I am so lucky to have the best best best surgeon and team.
I had to work with them for one year before I even had surgery!
It drove me crazy at times but in the end I'm so happy I had such a thorough team.
I think sometimes when I ask questions that may have been covered by the doctor -it's because I like to hear from other people who are going through the same thing.
A lot is repetitive ! I agree [emoji16]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
