3 weeks on Monday struggling

Recommended Posts

Hi

It will be 3 weeks since surgery on Monday and I'm barely getting down 400 calories a day. I can't meet my Protein grams. I get sick every time I try to drink a Protein Shake. I've tried about 5 different kinds so far and I just can't get it down. I don't meet my liquid intake either. I don't feel like eating , drinking anything.

Have you talked to your surgical team about this? If not, please do. Good luck!

Wow! What has your doctor said? You must stay hydrated first and foremost. Maybe they can prescribe you something for the nausea.

What kind of surgery?

I make it my business...and it's a chore, to get my fluids in.

Maybe try a different shake. I CAN NOT stand the powdered shakes that my friend who had VSG LOVES! So buy a few different kinds and see what works for you.

Premier Protein premixed shakes are the best for me. 160 cal 1 g sugar and 30 grams of Protein.

I try to start my day with that so I'm nearly halfway there. And it's the consistency of whole milk. I can't deal with the gritty stuff. I've even tried mixing it in my bullet, but still no go for me.

I hope you feel better.

I would call your team and talk to them about all of this.

I wouldn't worry about it for now. Just eat and drink what you can and focus on getting some light activity. You aren't going to starve to death your body has plenty of fuel to burn. Low Protein may cause issues but not for a long long time. Just make sure and get enough Water and eat what you can handle. Right now your focus is on losing weight, not eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
