I eat totally normally, just less. I dont count Protein, I dont focus on Protein, I eat carbs, usually Cereal and bread daily, I drink alcohol in moderation and enjoy what I want in moderation when I go out to eat. I basically eat 3 meals a day, no Snacks, that works best for me. I've never drunk a Protein shake and I've never been advised not to drink with meals.

Every so often I have a really bad day or week where I eat badly - too much chocolate or Cookies in particular. I write it off and get back on the wagon, I dont wallow in it and go right off the rails.

I dont fuss over what there will be to eat wherever I'm going, and I dont obsess over takeing home doggy bags of food I've not finished in a restaurant. So what if I dont eat it all? I just make a decision from what's available wherever I happen to be and yes, sometimes that's even McDonalds!

I hate ice cream and sweet drinks so never had to deal with that particular issue.

I run for about 45 minutes 4 or 5 times a week and do three fairly tough circuit training sessions a week as well.

I've lost 85lb in 18 months which is more than 100% of my excess weight. I'd say its been easy, I really would. It's just been gradual and natural and I've lost my terrible obsession with food and dieting.

I eat like Jacqui, which is how we are advised to here in Australia. I eat good healthy foods (which includes rice and Pasta - I can't eat bread) in smaller portions. I also don't count calories/protein. I eat Snacks like almonds, yougurt or fruit cups if I need to, which might be every other day. And I still eat chocolate whenever I feel like it. I've exercised 3-5 times (like a gym session of treadmill, bike and eliptical, a spin class, or a 5km run around my the block near my house and I am also currently doing a boot camp session twice a week) a week for 30-60 minutes since about 2 months after my surgery. I'm now running 5-10km fun runs when they are organised in my city and am fitter and stronger than I have ever been in my life. I've lost about 85lbs in just over 10 months and have about another 20 to go to my dream weight. But I've already exceeded my Surgeon's goal weight.

That said, I had a partial unfill a couple of months ago due to a bad stomach bug where I couldn't keep a thing down, and I have yet to get back to my sweet spot. I'm going for a fill tomorrow and I will be back to my pre-bug fill level, so hopefully that will move my loss along a little.

Hi Wannabthin:

I've just reached the 70.5 mark of weight loss. I started dieting at the end of April because my bmi was just over 50 and my surgeon doesn't band anyone whose bmi is 50. I got banded at the end of July 2007. I've lost 70.5 in total as of today.

I eat three small meals (even smaller since I got my first fill last week) and I usually have a yogurt in late afternoon to hold me over until supper. I eat sf popsicles and sf fudgsicles at night. I also make a snack of crystal light iced tea by adding crushed ice and lemon and eating it with a spoon. Sometimes instead of the iced tea I have the lemonade.

I exercise every day. I walk between 4.5 to 5.5 miles per day during the week and at least 3 miles per day on the weekends.

I have a long way to go but I feel that I've had a succesful start.

Good luck and soon you willbethin!

hi,

i just made the 70 lb mark. i have to tell you early on i read 2 sets of posts on this site....

-ones from people that were banded a long time ago and lost very little weight.

-i also saw people that met their goal within a year.

the first group sat in taco bell, didnt exercise, complained their fills werent "doing it for them"....this scared the "be-jeezus" out of me

the second group exercised, ate healthy and refused to talk about a "diet" instead they talked about a way of life. i decided this was the group to be in.

after being banded....i went to a "bootcamp" in tulum, Mexico to get my exercise endurance up. (it was called bikini bootcamp and it was great.) it was a good jumpstart

...and i stopped weighing myself regularly. it was making me crazy.

now i weigh 1-2 times a month. i found weighing is a real mood changer for me. i measure instead

i am diligent about eating Protein and taking Vitamins. i dont want to lose my hair.

i also drink tons of Water (my skin looks great from this) we get all these side benefits ha!

i use Protein shakes and sometimes the Protein whey bullets when i travel.

dont get me wrong...i have had a few periods where i started to eat junk. when this happened. i started journalling my food to actually see what i was eating. i like to fool myself sometimes....

exercise is the key for me since it helps me to watch my food, tones my body

good luck....you can do it!

p.s. the worse thing about all of this is the $ i am spending on clothes. i flew through size 18 and 16. (this is a good problem...i know)

the best thing is not shopping in lane bryant and the new choices we have in styles. i keep forgetting i dont need to go into the big lady's shop lol

You guys are truly an inspiration to me! I to want to lose at least 85lbs. It is hard for me to imagine 100 which what I would like to say! I had surgery 8/30/07 and when I hear the stories of people not losing or gaining it is sooo scary! I am trying to stay the course. I am exercising more than I ever have. I am looking forward to being able to run the walking courses I am doing now. I am still the slow one on the eliptical machine but I'm there and that's a start! I ahven't had my first fill and I am needing it! I am really hungry these days but Ive been making healthy choices for the most part.

Thanks for the inspiration! I want to be in that second group, too!

hi. I lost 70 pounds by the end of my 6th month with the band. My doctor left Long Island and I haven't had a fill since then. I needed another fill in july, august and sept, but had no doc and after searching I finally found one. I have an appt for next week. MY problem is now i have gained back almost 15 pounds! I am so angry because we were left without a fill doctor! I feel abandoned, and was tempted to call the DOH. Anyways, I have to travel 30 miles on my lunch break to get a fill. I have the large VG band, and currently only 4.8cc. I can eat anything...I can't wait for next week! I want to lose all I have gained and then some! By christmas I want to be down at least 30-40 pounds.

thanks for lending me ya ears!

I love josiebies's post!

I'm taking the same approach as she. Now, I'm a stickler for Protein and Vitamins because I noticed my hair thinning. YIKES! I use Protein powders and drink a protein bullet daily. Sometimes I mix the protein bullet in the powdered drink.

Right now, I'm not focusing so much on weight as I am on heath. Before banding 03/06/2007, was taking meds for diabetes and hypertension. NOT ANY MORE!!! I swear, if I don't lose another ounce, that is worth the price of admission.

We all slip up occasionally, but the key is to put it aside and keep moving forward. I'll never be thin...never have been. I am so proud to have gone from a BMI of 63.7 to 53.6 in 6 months. I've got a long way to go but I am enjoying the journey and my new life!

You're going to do just fine wannabthin!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
