Hello, I was just wondering what can I eat on the phase 3 "soft food" diet. The nutritional manual isn't very informative on what I could eat.

Well, I would certainly suggest reaching out to your NUT and/or surgeon as they may have specific things to eat and/or not eat during that phase based on your specific progress/situation, but there is a recipe section on this forum that is separated out by phase and there are some good recipes for the soft food phase. The ricotta bake saved me during this phase....

You should be able to find recipes for the phase you're on here --> http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1052-recipe-sharing/

When I was on my soft food phase I ate scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, baked salmon, chicken cooked in cream of chicken Soup (to keep it nice and soft and moist), low carb meatloaf, canned carrots, canned green Beans, mashed sweet potatoes.

I stayed away from pork and beef, because they are too heavy and not soft or easy to chew, with the exception of meatloaf.

I also got my Protein in first and would have only a few bites of the soft vegetables. I didn't fill up on carbs, so when I ate sweet potatoes, it would just be a few bites.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
