Just visited with my surgeon today. I was in a week long stall so I thought I was gonna go in there and hear some kind of reprimand that I hadn't lost enough weight! Felt like I was going to the principal's office:-). Well, not so.

They made me feel like I just broke through the banner on the football field. I was surprised how wonderful it felt to have people who do this every day so excited and proud of me. -29 pounds in 6 weeks. I know I'm not the best but they sure made me feel like it.

I have 52 lbs more to lose. Since I feel great with no complications I was given more advice than medical care. My surgeon told me that family and friends care about me and begin to make comments about my weight loss. Things like, "You've lost too much weight, you need to stop." Or "You're too skinny, you need to put on a few pounds." He said, they're not used to seeing me at a healthy weight and it can be a little scary for them.

They're not intentionally sabotaging me but it can. He used an example. If someone you love kept telling you that your haircut does not flatter your face how long would it take you to get your hair in a new cut? Or put you at you're ideal weight in a room with 10 strangers and every one of them will say you look healthy.

His advice. I am to listen to one person about my weight then he pointed at himself and said "me". I almost wanted to cry at his sincerity.

So why share here? Because it's good advice for all of us. When it comes to your health your Surgeon is the best one to tell you what your healthy weight is. Not you're mm, sister, brother or spouse. Go to your follow up appointments even if it feels like you're going to the principal's office.

Take care.

That was a blessing to read! Thanks for sharing. I especially like the analogy about the haircut. Wow. I think this good for us all. Thanks again!

I'll be 6 weeks post op on Monday and have also lost 29 lbs since surgery! Of course, I wish it were just a little more but I'm still happy!! I have at least 70 more to go.... one day at a time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
