I am also being banded on October 15th and start my Optifast on Monday. We can be supportive to each other and see how each day goes. I'm very excited. Had my DH take pics of me today...that was a real eye-opener...*bleck*. It's a good thing I'm having this surgery or those pics would have really sent me into a spiral. Good luck on your surgery! What time on the 15th do you have it done? Mines at 8am (I'm the docs first for the day...don't know if that's good or bad :guess.

I will also be banded on the 15th. We 3 need to stick together!! Haha! I don't have to do my liquid diet until the 5th. Funny how all the docs are different. My husband has offered to go on the diet with me....he is vit and trim! What a guy! My problem is that I am going to Colorado on the 3rd to stay with my daughter for a week. I also have other family there... some supportive, some not. My "last supper" in on Thursday night. It will be a family dinner to Celebrate birthdays. I think it will be a fitting last supper. Good luck to you both tomorrow. Let me know how it goes. ---Hugs

October 15th is my band day too!

I'm in Melbourne, Australia and have been feeling like the day would never arrive. Now that I'm into the pre-op diet it feels like it's really happening.

I've been on a farewell to food tour, interspersed with trying to do Optifast. My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet, but I wanted to lose some weight before my surgery. For some reason my head wouldn't get on board until that magic "two weeks" rolled around. Thank goodness I'm now feeling more in control.

I'm an OR nurse, there seems to be a few of us nursing types around.

Look forward to sharing the journey with you bday buddies

Susie

Red Lobster sounds GREAT! My sister picks for the birthday dinners, so I know our family birthday dinner Thurs. night (the night before I go on liquid diet) will be fantastic.

Funny thing...Since I got my surgery date, I have not been hungry. Not sure if I'm nervous (I don't feel nervous) or if my body is getting ready for the big change. I swear I have lost a pound or two. Anyone else share this experience?

Yea, I have experienced this. People were saying I should go out just before the pre-op diet and pig out. But I had no desire for any type of food. The only thing that I ate maybe to excess was toast. Raisin english muffins, Bagels, and just regular toast with sugar free jam. But definately my appetite was way down. And now that I am on day two of my pre-op, I am having little trouble adhering to it. This is a true blessing. Oh, btw, the night before I started my pre-op (5 optifasts/day) I was at the market buying soda and Water and as I came out of the store I saw a shooting star! I have seen maybe 2 or 3 in my lifetime. I took this as a sign from God that I shouldn't be concerned that I am doing this without His blessing. It seems kinda selfish ya know? But I was VERY reassured when I saw it and nearly did a dance in the parking lot of the Albertsons! I am so excited!

I have to say I bought two books on Amazon that I have found so interesting. One is 'Fighting Weight' by Khaliah Ali and the other is 'Lap-band for Life' by Dr. Ortiz-Lagardere. Great information and very inspiring.

Good luck to us!!

OMG! I can't believe you saw the shooting star. That is truly amazing.

My husband keeps wanting to take me out to eat and I have just had appetizers. We even went to the movie last night and I didn't have my weakness---popcorn. I really am not hungry. Yes, I consider it a blessing.

CQQlgirl, I forgot to tell you that I read the 2nd book that you mentioned. Very, very good and I am so glad that I read it. I haven't heard of the 1st book.

I've read both those books too. They are good to go back and look at for reference.

Well, this is day 3 of the liquid diet. Day 1 was pretty hard, kinda got paniky around the times i would eat something, like on the way home from work or around 4pm when I'd usually have a snack. 2nd day was better except I get a thick coating on my tongue from drinking the Protein drinks..yuk ! any one else get this? the hardest time is when the family eats dinner, I just go downstairs and do something else. Just went grocery shopping and bought a bunch of stuff that they can fix on their own. Husband has been great about clearing the kitchen asap after is prepared so I don't have to see it or smell it!

12 more days,

Sherri

I made the mistake of going out for a huge pastrami sandwich on my "last supper" day (yesterday), and now today on liquids I was so hungry. I'd done so well too, losing weight before surgery and my appetite had really decreased, but after the big pastrami-feast I make it more difficult for myself. My advice is to take the "last supper" easy, or not at all!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
