To Tell or Not To Tell - That is the Question

Recommended Posts

Thank you everyone for your input and support. I really appreciate what you've had to say. It makes me feel better about my decision to tell as few people as possible. Like many of you, I've told a couple people at work because I've had to. I've told my fiance and my daughter and a couple close friends. Other than that, I've told no one. If I tell my mom, she will put it on Facebook and that is no lie.

I have been losing 10 lbs a month for the last 4 months and people are noticing it now so I am hoping they will just think it is continued weight loss after I have the surgery.

Today we had a department lunch and when I was dishing up my plate, one my of co-workers who noticed my weight loss said "should you be eating that"? (I told her that I can't be dieting all of the time.) She doesn't know about my surgery (thank god) and this is the perfect example to me as to why everyone does not need to know about it. So again, thank you to all of you who have reconfirmed to me to not let many know what is going on. People are just too nosy and judgmental.

I told my dad, aunt and best friends (3). That's all. They all live in Jersey and I'm alone in MD so I wanted the support of those who I knew would be there for me. I have some great friends here that I haven't told. And don't plan on telling. It's enough to battle eternally with yourself about the surgery, not really trying to hear the mouths of those who aren't on board. Also, it's my body so what I do to it is my call.

I want to tell my brother but because I know for sure he will tell our grandmother, he can't know. lol she's extremely, unreasonably negative about life so I told her nada. I won't be seeing her until Nov (8 months after my surgery) and that's when she'll see me. And she'll mostly likely as me if I'm sick and on drugs or something but whatever.

Do what's best for you. It's your decision and your journey. Best of luck!! [emoji4][emoji4]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
