Feeling indecisive

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am new to this site. I was just approved to have WLS. I was convinced that I wanted the sleeve, but I just recently was introduced to the duodenal switch. I am 5"4 my CW 323 and my GW 170

Do any of you have any advice for this lost 23 year old?

I would try the sleeve first. You have a lot of decades left, and the malabsorption aspect can have long term consequences. If the sleeve doesn't do it for you, you could get a revision.

I would wait until you're as close to 100% confident with your choice as possible. This is a huge life change and you should be completely sure so that you can be successful. There are pros and cons to all so just continue to research as much as possible before making your decision. Good luck!

I think you are too young to have your intestines touched. Go sleeve and you can always revise later.

I did sleeve, I started at 358 day of surgery, 190 right now

Hey! I was there last year and backed out legit at the last month! but now I'm going full steam ahead with this! I can't wait... maybe try and journal about both sides and what parts of you want to do it and which parts done

Follow your instant gut feeling, which one of them do you keep going back too? Which one speaks to you the most? Which one do you feel most comfortable with?

For me personally, I’m happy I went for the sleeve and the doctors supported me in that decision because they said the bypass would have been too drastic at my age. Plus, I was more a volume eater rather than a sweet tooth or a junk food eater. To this day, I’m extremely happy with the sleeve, because I can still eat/drink everything, just in moderation. With the sleeve, if you decide it’s not enough, you can always still go for a revision.

Best of luck.

Xxx

Edit: I’m 23 and had the sleeve 5 months ago.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
