Are there any people in London Ontario who have been banded.

Recommended Posts

Hi Sheila,

I'm in Toronto, but am frequently in London. My daughter goes to UWO and my mother lives in Tillsonburg, so I feel like London is my second home. Congratulations on your surgery. How are you doing?

Alex

:ranger:I was just wondering if there is any one in London that has been banded. It would be great to have someone close.

Hi there, KathyBad (you'll find her on the Lucky 7's board of July Bandsters) is from London, Ontario.

She and I were both banded in Toronto at Toronto Lap Band Centre, Dr. Yau. That's where we met each other...

Good luck with your journey

I am feeling like home here :)

I will have my first consultation at Toronto Lap Band Centre in the next weeks. Btw I live in the GTA area.

Wow, thanks to everybody who responded to my thread. It is great to know that I am not alone in London and there are a few of us either in London or from surrounding areas.

I went for my first fill yesterday in Mississauga. They actually pulled out 4.4 cc which she was surprised that they had put that much in when they banded me. She only up it .6cc which I don't think is going to be my last because even today I am not really satisfied with what amount I am eating. I am really trying to stick to it. It is a whole new way of eating.

I met with the nutritionist also yesterday and I was surprised on finding out that I am allowed three meals a day of 1 cup and 1 small snack. I should try and go 4 to 5 hours between meals without snacking. Should be fun. I was also told to forget post op which was eating every 1/2 hour. Everything is changing now because I am past post op. I also found out that carbonated beverages are a no for as long as the band is in me ( which is for life) and that includes beer. I know there is probably not allot of beer drinkers out there but I did enjoy the odd one. Apparently if you drink carbonated beverages your little part of you stomach will fill up with gas and it could cause a slippage. We don't want that.

I guess I will be going back to Mississauga in two week to top my fill. Hopefully it won't take long to find my sweet spot!!

Hope everyone is having a great day and if you are not that is okay also.

Crispy

I was talking to my sister today and I told her about the beer. She said that all I had to do is leave it out for awhile and drink it flat. I really can't see doing that. My dad and I used to be beer buddies and he past away last year so I lost my beer buddy. It should be much easier for me.

Nice to know there are more beer drinkers out there.

I have been banded about 6 weeks, have had my first fill, and will have the occassional beer. The bubbles don't cause a problem, I don't burp any more than usual and I have to be sure to include the calories in my daily total.

I drink quite slowly, so that may be the secret. I think one of the big learnings for me has been what I can and cannot tolerate. bread is out - I tried and I don't miss it.

I am booked for my second fill on October 10th - didn't want to do anything drastic over the long weekend - I too have 5 cc as 4 was in the band post-op. I believe the difference is that the larger bands have more area against the stomach wall - this takes a larger amount of saline to fill the bladder and tubing - it is all relative.

Cindy

It's a matter of gentle trial and error.

Cindy

Here is the answer that I got when I asked the question about carbonated drinks last week, on the Mississauga Surgical Weight Loss Centre patient support forum board (the clinic staff run a Q & A section called "food Questions for the Surgical Weight Loss Centre").

I asked them:

I know that carbonated sodas (even diet) are not permitted on the lap-band diet, and I haven't had any since my surgery nor have I missed them (much to my surprise!). However, I wondered if the same restriction applies to carbonated mineral waters e.g. Perrier Water or San Pellegrino. Is it the carbonation or the aspartame that is the problem? Or both?

The response from them was:

The only problem with carbonated Water is that some patients may find it difficult to burp up the gas if that becomes necessary. Other than that, there should be no problem. The problem with aspartame in diet sodas is that it acts as an appetite stimulant.

I hope this answers your questions.

You might find this response helpful... in my case I will go ahead and have the occasional sparkling water, but stay away from the diet sodas.

Cindy

Thank you for the information about the beer. Someday when I really feel like one I might give it a try.

I am going for my second fill on October 16th. Please let me know how you feel tomorrow after you fill, if you don't mind and if you have a chance. I can still fit anything down.

Sheila the fill went well and I think I can feel a bit of a difference right now, but I will wait and see. I stuck to soft foods at lunch time and had a baked potato and small bit of steak for supper - I wasn't able to eat much of it (about 2 oz) so here's hoping.

Good luck.

Hi Sheila, I am from a small town just south of London. Had my lapband done the end of July in Mississauga. Nice to know there is someone close who knows the ropes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
