Hi all...I too had my surgery at Harper Hospital, but with Dr. Nunn and I can't say enough about him and his staff. Harper is also known as a very good hospital. If anyone is in the Detroit area and looking for a good doctor I would recommend Dr. Nunn a thousand times......

About Harpers, and Belite team. The doctors were ok, I had my surgery performed by Dr. Webber and everything was suposed to be OK. Dr Weiner also took care of me after surgery... anyways. The belite team is terrible, I was waiting at the airport for 4 hours when I got to Detroit, they are so disorganized... some girls told me surgery was at noon and the hospital called and asked me to be there by 6am because my surgery was at 9. When I left, this girls were suposed to get me a taxi, well ... it never came and I lost my flight. I had to get out of the "hotel" and get a cab by myself and pay $60, which were never reimbursed. Can you imagine waiting for 3 1/2 hours for another flight when you just had surgery???? Did they apologize? NOPE Did they care??? I dont think so.... I called everyone at belite weight and still I haven't heard a word about them.

Once in my hometown, I had my firts fill, well... it went sooooooooo wrong because one of the tubes in my port was kinked, nobody knows why, so there I was in soooo much pain, I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. I called belite to give them some heads up and ask if they've heard something alike my case... never heard back from them.

I don't want to judge the doctors, I was treated fairly good at the hospital. But BeLiteWeight customer service sucks. This guys need to realize that this is surgery we are talking about, serious shit can happen and you need to get what they promised. I would NOT recommend them, and I regret not doing more homework before my surgery.

I've heard great hings however about this medical team in Minnesota, at HCMC, Dr. Leaderer and Dr. Crook are great. This is the team that took over my case after I had so many complications with that kinked tube and I got to meet a lot of their patients and I have not heard anything but great things about them.

This team take seriursly your weightloss journey and they are always available whenever something happens. I should've stay here for surgery, like I said, the doctors were OK at Detroit, belite sucks tough, but HCMC's whole team is truly amazing. They've embraced my case and call me everyday while I was really sick and ... just great people. The nutricionist is awesome, the doctors are great, the nurses and customer service do what they promise. I would've ended up getting rid of the band if it wasn't for them.

I just asked this question recently and the way I understand it... advertising on places like OH is verrry expensive. If they go through a 3rd party and advertise they get group discounts or some such thing.

Some docs hire coordinators to do more, to handle the patients and essentially, the 3rd party coordintors tell the docs what surgery they will be performing and when. Other docs don't like that and prefer to have their own staff deal with patients before, during, and after surgery.

really? the coordinators tell the doctors what to do? then how can you tell if you are going thru a middleman or what is the advatage of that?

Just ask them.

There are some coordinators that are decent, honest, and don't BS you. They will tell you the truth. If you don't want to deal with a 3rd party coordinator because you aren't getting what you need, then call the office directly and speak to your MD's staff. My problem with coordinators are the people that post HERE and don't TELL you they are coordinators. They get a commission for referring you to any given doc. Those are the people that have less value than dog drool in my mind. They don't tell you they are coordinators.

No, it doesn't change the price to patients. I don't know how it all works but I know there is no additional fee for this.

There used to be. There used to be a place called Belightweight (vs. belite) that did charge between $1500-$3000 for the honor of referring you to a doc, doing your fills, giving you infections, and allowing you to lose your band but she went out of business. Belite is different, they don't do fills, they don't give you infections, etc. But it is their job to sell you one of their docs.

You should try the Barix clinic in Ypsilanti. They are all very nice. I am getting banded by Dr. Schram on Jan 3rd. Barix is very attentive to my needs and so far I like everyone I have met with. I have done a lot of research on Dr. Schram and he comes highly recommended by everyone that uses him. I would try there. The phone # is 800-282-0066

Barix is banding again? Cool! They had lost their surgeon a while back and folks were having a hard time getting fills. Good to know they are banding again.

I just had my PAT(pre adm. testing), and I found out you can't drink 1 week before surgery. I was bummed out obout that because I want to have some fun on New Years Eve. Then you can't eat anything the day before the surgery and you have to take a laxative. It is out patient surgery, so you won't have to worry about bringing anything except someone to take you home. The actual surgery is only about 15 minutes. You have a 1 hour meeting with a nutritionist who explains a lot about what and how to eat after the surgery. You get a book about nutrition. You also get a chest xray, ultrasound of your gallbladder, ekg, breath test and bloodwork. It't about a 3-4 hour visit.

Oh wow. This is so helpful. Thank you again. My pre-test date is the same as your banding date J-03. Good Luck with everything and I will be praying for you. Are you excited? Scared?

To the user that had surgery by Dr. Weiner at Harper, does he do the fills in office? And can you give me his phone number? I had the surgery done by Dr. Wood at Harper but his office is so far from me and Harper is closer. Thanks.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
