Emotional Hot Mess

Recommended Posts

I just had the sleeve on 2-20. I came home on Wednesday, had a great day Thursday, and woke in a funk yesterday and slept all day and woke in a funk again today. I feel like something is missing or a part of me is missing. I feel like I've made the biggest mistake of my life, yet I'm not sure of the reason why. I'd love to here anything from anyone that may have felt like this after the surgery. I'm feeling kind of scared and sad.

I had gastric bypass last June. I know it's not the same procedure , but I feel like we go through some of the same things. I had several days where I felt kind of down shortly after the surgery, but it didn't last long. I think your body is recovering but your mind is also adjusting to a whole new way of life. I just think it takes a lot of your energy to totally recover and it's zaps you. The good news is that it doesn't last long. Hang in there.

You are gong to be ok. Really. I call what you are experiencing "buyer's remorse." I was three or four days post op when I broker down and cried because I felt like you are feeling.

It's done. There is no going back, but why would you want to? You've just done what may be the most proactive thing you've ever done for yourself and that can be scary. And you just had surgery! You're probably sore, uncomfortable, exhausted, hormonal, etc. You are fragile right now. It will pass! Rather than fret over what's done, focus on what's going to happen now. Imagine all of the pressure on your heart and organs and how they are going to be relieved of having to work so hard and how much better you are going to feel.

Take care of yourself and concentrate on what you are gaining and what you are gong to lose-- gaining health and energy, losing pounds and inches. It will be ok, really!

You will go through a lot of physical and emotional changes.
Hang in there and stay positive.
Your hormones are doing a reset and what your feeling is totally normal.
All you need is time.
Positive thinking and focus on rest, Fluid intake, exercise, eating healthy and repeat.

I think triplethreat just hit the nail on the head. I got sleeved one day after you and have those moments of regret every once in a while. I think part of the problem is because we are recovering, and not yet very active, we have a lot of time to get into our own heads which isn't always the best thing imho. Try and keep your head up, I'm sure this will pass shortly and before you know it you will be enjoying all the good things that will come from this !

I also believe the offloading of hormones coupled with our loss of coping... food... makes for a new type of life. And it is not easy!!
Keep trying. It gets better!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
