Skipping meal plan phases

Has anyone cheated on their eating plans? Today makes one full week that I've been sleeved and I'm starting to feel like me again. I enter the full liquid phase today. During the past week, I've not been able to get in my liquids or Protein bc it just hurt too bad to drink anything, but yesterday I got in 30 grams of protein, and about 40 oz of Water. This morning I drank a 14oz bottle of water in about an hour (makes me hopeful.) I don't EVER eat fish, but MY BODY CRAVVVVED IT TODAY! So I bought a piece and chewed it to toothpaste consistency. Ive eaten about eight nibbles in four hours and I don't feel horrible (literally nor figuratively, lol) just wondering if anyone has skipped any phases and still been ok?

Wow, that was morbid, lol. Was you trying to scare the cheating out of me? I def hope I survive a couple nibbles of fish as well. Thanks for the reality check tho

I understand the morbidity of the other posters, a guy who was sleeved the same day as me (Feb 7) died 10 days post-op..likely because he didn't follow the guidelines.

His wife posted (privately on another fb group) that he took Alka seltzer. Threw up blood and died shortly after. He didn't have a lot of time after his error for the Dr to fix it.

So, to me, following plan is very important. Also, if you "cheat" now, what stops you in the future? What happens if you crave chocolate or cake? Will you give in? I know we aren't 100% perfect, but try your hardest.

I wasn't even trying to scare her. I was just trying to explain why we can't trust our bodies in the early post-op stages.

Leaks can occur because of back pressure on the stapled edge as the stomach tries to push food through to the small intestine. Liquids don't need as much force to exit the stomach, that's why we're instructed to start with liquids. Furthermore, because the stomach is undergoing 'wound healing', pain signals may be masked.. hence the reason why we may not feel any adverse effects initially.

The addendum was merely an axiom by someone I respect a lot, who likes to chip in that added warning to his post-op instructions.

I apologize if anything was misconstrued. Still, post op instructions are always more 'compulsory' than they are 'optional'

I'm following my surgeon's instructions. They are designed to maximize my weight loss and reduce the risk of complications. These phases are just a few weeks long... it should be no problem to get through them.

Why take the risk?

Oh man, this thread has taken a terrifying turn! Alka seltzer! Oh man...

According to my discharge instructions, soft fish chewed to a pureed consistency would begin at 3 weeks. It seems my plan advances more quickly than most do too.

OP, I think we should move away from the concept of "cheating" as health providers officially call it "non-compliance" and "against medical advice." Do you want to be deemed non-compliant in the books? You made it this far! Don't give in! I wish you all the best!

Sometimes in life, we choose to change our eating and behavior patterns.... this is an opportunity to try to change your life and health.
Truly your choice.
If all was great pre op, most of us would not have chosen to alter our body. perhaps try a new way and see if you are ready for a life change.
Proceeding slowly to allow your body to heal is sensible. You would not walk on a broken leg because you wanted to hurry the process.
It takes maturity and patience in my opinion, and I had to learn both.
(Banded12/06). It took a long while to not struggle, but surrender to a new effort to change my life.
That dang CONTROL thing!
Best of luck. Keep posting

I am 6 weeks out and am not supposed to have meat for another 5 days...I had chicken today...very tender and chewed lime crazy well. Just a tiny bit. First I have "cheated"..but I see people here all the time having pureed earlier than this. I also had a raw spinach leaf .. no problem. But first 5 weeks? I was militant about following plan...too scary and not worth it.
