People don't get it!

Recommended Posts

I've done all my research, started my appointments and am mentally preparing for surgery. I made the mistake of sharing with a co worker my weight struggle and decision and there response was have you tried weight watchers, why don't you try weight watchers? Like I just havent been trying hard enough. Yes I've tried weight watchers 5 times and personal training and they just don't get it ! Sorry just joined and need to vent

Do what's best for YOU.... That is the main reason I haven't told anyone (except my husband and my mom)because I don't need nor do I want people's opinions. BUT I have NOT told my mom and my hubby that I'm approved and only waiting on my surgery date [emoji50]

you have to do what is right for you! I too, had tried every diet and gimmick under the sun to lose weight. I have no regrets about having the sleeve last summer. I feel amazing! I am not finished but the surgery is a 'tool' that will help you to lose the weight and hopefully keep it off. Good luck and try not to listen to well meaning folks!

I feel you, someone always has an answer. I have chose to only tell close family members. I did mention it to a friend and her response was "please don't do that, you aren't even that big" Thanks for the compliment but I am too close to 300 for comfort!

People just don't understand how much all this extra weight affects daily life.

Right! I can relate. I'm 280 and have alot to lose, maybe I hide it well but I feel it everyday and in everything I do. I'm excited to take the next steps.

I agree with others. Some people just don't understand. I think one of the things throughout this process is that you learn who you can talk to about this stuff and who you can't. I'm sorry that you had that experience with your co-worker :( Keep doing what is right for you!!!

I can sort of relate only l was 328 so I can say I was definetly "big enough". I made the mistake of telling my brother who discouraged me and told me not to recieve the WLS. He asked me just to try the diet he was on and asked me many questions about what kind of fitness routine I was doing. I love my brother so it was very hard to handle this even if he did mean well.

I have been overweight most of my life and have tried and failed at many diet trends. I didn't want to try another diet I wanted a lifestyle change. Something I was sad he didn't understand because we both come from the same "hefty size" family. While I did take his POV into consideration, I finally had to do what I thought would work for my body. It's my body so it's my choice. Tbh I'm glad I didn't listen and had the surgery. I'm not far out but already I feel so much better in my daily life with mobility, health issues and self esteem!

Yeah they don't have to get it! I didn't tell anyone until the week before surgery. Didn't tell my mom until I was in the OR prep! Told my bf two weeks before!

Just remember that most people are not educated about the surgeries. If they were, I think we'd have a whole lot more encouragements and support around us.

I told everyone and I still tell everyone and I practically shout out the qualifying statement that IDGAF what anyone thinks about it. My body, my decision. Best decision I've ever made. Those who thought it was a bad idea have been eating their words as of late. You'll do great!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
