6 month stall/plateau and scared!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is losing weight and hitting goals!

quick recap: had vsg on 9/8, was 304 lbs. Currently am at 241.5. Have finally hit a stall. Its been about 6 months and i have lost only 5 lbs since dec 19. On dec 19 I had my post opp app. with my surgeon and weighed in at 246. I didn't eat badly for the holidays, and I have been working out and lifting/strength training a couple of times a week. Last week I even cut my food in half and did no snacking, no fat, no carbs etc. I am not eating a lot, I don't think. I would say maybe 2-4 ounces max, 2wice a day. Breakfast is a shake. Surgeon said weight loss was right on track, all Vitamins and levels were wonderful. Weighed myself consistently every week since then and scale only moved down to 241. Im stressing because my next app. is on March 29th, and Im suppose to have lost an additional 30 lbs by then. Im worried I wont make that goal. I look in the mirror and even though I know I lost all that weight, I dont see it. Im also worried I wont lose anymore weight. I know its irrational but Ive been fat my whole life so this for me is scary. Ideally at the end of this journey, Id like to have lost 100 lbs in a year. Ultimate goal would be 160. But lets be serious- ill take 180 happily. Did anybody else have a stall? how did you get out? Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated! Fingers crossed the scale moves this week or I will probably cry!

I don't have any advice for breaking it as I'm right there with you...including the scared part!

I'm trying to just keep working the way I'm supposed to and looking at the overall, not just the right now. It doesn't always work, but it's keeping me from driving myself into fits.

Big hugs.

It is possible to stall because you are eating too little. In general, 800cals is a good starting point, tweaked up or down depending on how much you work out.

Yes, maybe try eating a bit more - mixing up WHAT you eat. I think eating the same things every day may not be what your body wants or needs. Hit your Protein goals, but add in some more veggies/fruits. Also you may want to try some sort of HIIT type exercise. Something to get your heartbeat really going if only for a short while. It sounds like you are doing great and doing everything you should......mixing it up a bit may help jar you out of the stall.

I don't think you're eating enough. I was sleeved 9/19 and I eat 5x a day, around 1000 calories. I aim for 80-100g of Protein and then the rest in carbs and fat. What are you doing for exercise?

I was eating only 600-800 calories around that time and my nutritionist told me I needed to be eating between 1000-1200! I think you are eating way too little. If you don't eat enough you won't lose weight. You also need to be getting at least between 60-80 grams of Protein a day. I think if you up your intake you will start losing again.

Also remember muscle weighs more than fat, try and check your measurements in addition to the scale

I had about a month-long stall 5 months out until about 6.5 months out. I had a similar starting weight as you, and I just sort of hung around 230 for a while, before it started edging down again. As a side note, I watch what I eat, but I'm pretty much eating what I want now, and I'm still slooowly edging towards my "ideal" weight of 190... if I stayed right here at 210 I'd have no reason not to be thrilled with the surgery results, but I'm still thinking I can make at least 200. Great work so far...you'll get there!

I was sleeved 9-27-16...about the same time as you. I'm stalled right now too. Ugh. They say it's normal but it's so annoying. I just want to drop 25lbs a month like in the beginning! Lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
