Is hair loss a given?

Recommended Posts

Did all of you lose some hair after getting the band? If so, how bad is it? I already have thin hair so I am not looking forward to losing any at all.

I've had my band since January and lost about 40 lbs. I've noticed no Hair loss at all.

Ditto.

I started out with a thicker head of hair/alot of hair. I freaked at the thought of loosing it. I started Biotin months before my surgery. I still take it; and I make sure to get in all my Protein.

Good luck.

Sometimes it's the anesthesia that causes a little Hair loss. However, as a bandster you will not have the malabsorption issues that people with Gastric Bypass have. Therefore.....if you will be sure to get in your 80-100 grams/protein per day (forever!) and take your Multivitamins you should not have any serious fallout (pun intended!). In fact, my hair is thicker than it has ever been - I was getting very little Protein before wls and taking many kinds of medication. Now I'm off all meds, get a healthy diet and I have lots of hair (even have hair some places I didn't before but we won't go into that!!:clap2:) and good nails and skins.

I take my Vitamins and Protein like a good girl..

Banded in April, and about 3 weeks ago I started noticing my hair falling out a lot. My hair was already thinned out from when I did Atkins (I don't know why). I just use a lot of hair products to make my hair 'big'.

I heard it will grow back though, so my fingers are crossed.

Yeah, I've noticed some Hair loss. I'm hoping it will stop soon. But I've experienced hair loss before, for no good reason. Maybe it's stress that does it. Between having surgery and trying to get my thesis done and preparing to take my comprehensive exams, I've been under a LOT of stress lately.

I am 7 weeks post op and have just started noticing some Hair loss when I comb my hair. Luckily I have lots of it!

When I was in my teens and 20's and wore it long, long, long I used to see wads of it on the drain every time I washed it. Then for years, nothing. So we'll see.

:)

It's different for everyone. Most seem to say between months 4-8 but one baritric surgeon wrote an article recently and he said 2-11 months. Mine started at 4 months and JUST ended the day I cut my hair. It couldn't be coincidental, that would be too much of a coincidence. But I used to have really long hair and a ton of it. I lost about 50% of it and it was still falling out by the day. It clogged my shower drain every single day. It was horrible. Finally I got it cut to just below my shoulders and the Hair loss came to a dead stop. I don't know why, I just know that it did. That was less than a month ago.

Hm.. My hair was so thick growing up, I could barely get a pony-tail holder around it once.

Then I did Atkins and lost a LOT LOT LOT of hair.. it never did grow back :)

Now my hair is about the size of a quarter when pulled into a pony-tail.

A few weeks ago I noticed my hair falling out again, and I'm just trying to tough it out. I'm convinced it will grow back this time..

I don't have genetics for thin hair, and my siblings still have their crazy thick hair.. I don't know why I lost it during Atkins.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
