Lump in Throat

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else get a lump feeling in their throat? This is a new thing for me since my first adjustment/fill on Friday.

For many people, that's their feeling of restriction. I had the lump feeling for many weeks after being banded and occasionally get it when I'm feeling tighter (like early in the day, TOM, etc).

Thanks for the answers. I ate MUCH less at dinner tonight and the lump feeling is better - it is there but better. I guess I will try to eat even less next time. The problem is though, I don't get it until a bit of time after eating so it is hard to know when to stop!

Thanks again.

I am 8 days post op and have had a lump in my throat for about 3 days now. I barley ate (drank) anything today and it has been at its worse. It is quite anoying.

Karen:

I was having issues with that too. It's hard to know how much is enough, versus how much is too much. Try to remember how many bites you took when you got the lump and have less next time. I find that when I get the lump if I'm not sliming or pb'ing if I walk around it helps a bit. I'm not sure if it is gravity helping or just that standing stretches out the abdomen more. Good luck, and best wishes for less "lumpy" days.

ok call me paranoid, but how can you stand/live with a 'lump' feeling being in your throat all the time. I haven't been banded yet, but of all the side effects I have read on this board, PB'ing, sliming, Hair loss and being a slow loser, this is the one side effect that will make me not get the band, seriously, I can not imagine in my lifetime being able to put up with that, I would be conscious of it all the time and always have a sense of not being able to get anything past it. This has got to be one of the most horrible side effects out there. Please tell me that not everyone has or feels this????If it is then I guess I will just have to remain fat! I just can not see me living with that.

Of those that get it that is usually something that doesn't last forever.

Being banded is hard, no doubts there. Being fat is much harder. I'm just approaching getting a taste of thin and let me tell you. My journey has been hard, exceedingly hard. The first six months was a horror due to bizarre complications. If I had it to do all over again I would do it without a 2nd thought. If a lump in my throat was the worst of it I'd be thrilled. But it wouldn't have been anything compared to what I was dealing with the first six months.

During that time I wasn't so sure about all this band stuff but now that I'm getting a taste of approaching thin? I wouldn't trade it for the world.

If a lump in my throat for a while was the worst of it, this journey would have been a piece of cake.

You need to sit down and seriously think about how bad you want thin. That's the bottom line.

I have had very few of the different problems you hear about. I do not even know what sliming is. All i really had was gas pain in the shoulder after surgery and pain in chest if i eat to fast. No big deal and i feel great and i am starting to look as good as i feel.Would do it again in a minute. Donna

I too have had the experience of a PB recently. I was eating a piece of meat and swallowed before chewing enough. I was talking and not paying attention and gulp. I knew from the moment I swallowed that I would have problems. I started salivating more and so I went to the restroom and burped and up came my food. It was not like real vomiting because there wasn't any acid. The food just presents itself and then you feel ok again. Anyway that was my experience. It's a new way of life, and I'm getting used to it now. Of course I have not had a fill-- so I'm still toddling through this experience.

I found I had plenty of warning to find a restroom. I did'nt retch or make any noise at all.

I hope this wasn't too graphic.

Docsdeb - the lump is really not very bothersome now that I know what it is. Don't make that factor into your decision please!

Q for more experienced - does the feeling of restriction change - what is the sweetspot compared to this? I am trying to decide about my next fill.

Thanks!

Wendell...

During my first six months of banding how many emails, PMs, and telephone conversations did we have? You are one of the reasons I still have my band. You at least made me realize I wasn't crazy, something was wrong.

Wendell is one of my heros in life!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
