Did you have to quit smoking for WLS?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

As I am preparing for my band to bypass revision, my doctor made it crystal clear I have to stop smoking. I have been smoking for about 5 years, which is terrible for me to even say, and I know I have to. if it came down to it I know I could just torture myself and do it cold turkey, but I am asking for advice or things that people have done that has helped them. I am considering the nicorette gum but again just asking for advice!

Thank you!

I switched to vaping over a year ago. I cut myself down to 3mg of nicotine, zero before surgery. I am a smoker, I enjoy it, I don't know if vaping is better or worse, and I don't care. I will go back up to 3mg after about a month.

Don't bother with the gum unless you have quite à bit of time. They check for nicotine and it takes about 3weeks for nicotine to be out of your blood.

Vaping is a good option as long as you go 0 nicotetne within 3weeks of testing.

I had to quit myself, was tough the first week, but now happy to be done with it!

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply guys! I've decided to drink a lot more Water and add some sort of grape juice ( I read that it helps triple time to remove toxins for body?) and supplement cigarettes for tea.. wish me luck lol.

Also, I have read a lot of people on here started to "vape".... does this not have the same side effects as smoking an actual cigarette??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
