Hi,

I have never written on a chatroom or forum or anything ever before. I am having my surgery next Thursday 23rd March. I am one week into the pre op diet. Good luck to everyone who's having their surgery in the next couple of weeks

Hi everyone! I just registered tonight. My surgery is in less than 2 weeks, on March 27th. I don't have a lot of support and I am hoping that I can find some here. I am ready for the surgery, but I am also very scared about it. I am now on the pre-op shake diet. I don't know if that is common everywhere, or just with the VA. I have to take 5 shakes a day. Today is actually my first day of it. There is a small list of foods that I can eat daily as well, but it is small of course. I don't know why I am explaining this as you all here probably know. Ramble rant over lol... I just wanted to sound off here saying I am brand new and I have a March surgery date. Good luck to all that have one coming up and I hope the surgery went well for all those who have had it already this month.

Hi, I am new to the site too. My surgery is on the 22nd and am on the liquid diet now but not strictly shakes. I can also eat broth and Jello like many. You are lucky there are some foods on your list although nobody probably feels that lucky on this diet. Lol.

Btw, i noticed you have doxie in your user name? Dachshund mom by any chance? I have a Black and Tan short hair standard. :)

Hi there! Yes, I have a small list of foods I can have (about 5 different things) once a day, but I also have to take 5 Protein Shakes a day for 2 weeks and this is on top of the 64 oz of liquid. Most of the ones I have seen here do not require 5 shakes a day that I have seen I don't think. I think it is so weird that we all have very different pre-op diets. But yeah, no matter what kind of pre-op diet we have to be on, it kinda sucks lol. I still think we are lucky though for what we are going to have in the end.

Yes, I am a doxie mom. I have three dachshunds, all black and tan dapples (1 senior, 2 brothers, varying degrees of dapple), all mini (tweenie actually) smooths. I also work at a dachshund rescue. I am the crazy doxie lady lol. Nice to meet both a fellow newbie here and fellow dachshund mom.

Good luck on your surgery!

Hi and welcome! My date is on the 27th as well. The liquid diet depends on the surgeo/ coverage you have. I only have to do the liquid diet the day before. There is a lot of support here and you are not alone.

Yes, we are definitely lucky to go on a new adventure with this surgery and landing on the losers bench. It will all be worth it.

That's so awesome you have three doxies. My standard is so anti social, he won't let me have another one so he has my lap all to himself. Lol. It's wonderful you work at a rescue. I adopted my first doxie who has since passed, from Beagles and Buddies near L.A.

Good luck to you too. Look forward to hearing from you throughout your journey.

I hope that the surgery went well and it wasn't as bad as your nerves were preparing you for. I am pretty nervous as well though, so I understand your feelings. Mine is on Monday.

I hope your surgery went well! How are you feeling?

Hi, than you so much. The surgery went very well! Five small incisions no drain or catheter. Thank God so far no pain and no nausea. Right after surgery I did have lots of bloating that made it uncomfortable to take in liquids. It felt like I ate two plates of food and was stuffed but not pain. My surgeon and hospital requires you to intake 80 grams of Protein and a pitcher of Water before release. So this was difficult to get in the sips every 15 minutes of water and then every 5 of protein. I started walking literally after I was taken to my room. It helped for sure to lift the sedation fog from my brain and feel a little less sluggish. I walked A LOT since that's what everyone says helps and it does.

After some hours he prescribed a gas medicine, suppository and a steroid for stomach inflammation. By night all started working and by the time I got some sleep, I was good to go yesterday to make up for the liquids I didn't take in Wednesday and got everything in so I was released by the afternoon. Yay! Back to my own bed. :)

My sister helped me get organized with my schedule of meds and fluid/protein intake for the week. I have my week follow up next Thursday so praying for the best and maybe moving on to a new menu outside of just the broth and Isopure.

I can't wait to hear how your surgery goes. Wishing you the best on that day and beyond!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
