Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved Thursday afternoon and I really, really want to do this right the first time. I don't want to have to have a revision, etc.

I know that people lose more weight more quickly if they are male or have extremely high BMIs, but I don't fall into either of those categories.

So I'm looking for tips and success stories from other women who got the sleeve when they were around 40 BMI. I only need to lose 80-90 pounds, but I don't want to get stuck only losing a few pounds per month like I hear others complaining about.

Thanks!

I was just under 40 BMI and I have been sucessfull with having the sleve. The reality is that we all lose weight at different rates but as long as its going down, then its all positive. I am so glad I had the sleve done, just wish I had done it years ago.

I was at 36 BMI. 34 lbs down at 7 weeks post op. Walk, walk, walk. It is the key to healing quickly and keeping your head in the right place. Have a plan and stick to it. Best thing I've done for myself.

My BMI was a 32 on the day of having the VSG (I was a self-pay patient in Mexico) in August of 2015 and by December of 2016 I'd lost 80 pounds. In comparison to the rate of loss for other patients mine was at a turtle's speed, but I'm still really pleased. You'll likely lose weight the fastest in the first four months, and then the pace will slow down. Many people experience a stall three weeks post-op, so don't be discouraged if you do. I've stalled out several times going for weeks without losing any weight, and then it's perked up again. Some will feel defeated by stalls and believe that if they aren't losing weight or it isn't coming off fast enough then it's pointless to continue to eat nutritiously and exercise diligently, but that's a mistake. Just keep persevering.

Not eating enough can actually cause you to stall out because your body will freak out and think it's starving, so your metabolism slows down to protect you. Make sure you're not eating too much or too little. Using MyFitnessPal to track what I eat has really helped. People seem to lose the fastest with a lower carb, high Protein diet. I tend to be lower carb instead of severely low carb, and aim for a 50-70 carb range. Being more active throughout the day, and not just with dedicated exercise can help too. I started biking to and from work about 6 weeks post-op, and doing things like parking farther away in a lot or higher up in the garage and taking the stairs both ways.

I keep hearing how important walking is, and that will be a struggle for me since I live in Minnesota and it is the middle of winter. I think I am going to have to literally drive to the gym so that I can get my steps in on the treadmill. We were just on vacation and I was getting between 9,000 and 16,000 steps in every single day. Since I've been back home I'm only doing about 2,000.

Wow! That's awesome @@Clementine Sky 80 lbs. I too was self pay in Mexico. I was a 36 Bmi weighing 197 in Sept 2015 I'm down 46 lbs, and very happy with my results. I bought my 1st size 8 this weekend. I don't even remember EVER buying an 8..lol My favorite thing is always having a crock pot going with some kind of Protein. So when I'm hungry I go for the protien. Hard boiled eggs, costco pre cooked bacon and cartons of egg whites. Cottage cheese, and the Mexican in me likes taco salads, chicken chile Verde. Salsa on everything. My down fall is I might eat too much cheese, oh but I love it. I'll be completely honest I was walking/hiking daily and stated running I was up to 4 miles without stopping, I injured my knee about a month ago and haven't exercised at all. This rainy weather doesn't help. I just got a gym membership and I'm ready to tone up. My butt is GONE!! Good luck to you!! Just remember everyone is different no one is the same just be you and in time it'll fall off. Drink lots of Water and drink your shakes. I'm at the hair loss stage right now!! It kinda sucks. post-298581-14853518453138_thumb.jpg

I don't remember my exact BMI, I think it was 35...I only weighed 230 at the beginning of the process and 214 on surgery day. I'm down to 125 and i've been steady for about a year now (11 months to be exact). I had my surgery June 2015.

My main thing is to watch and keep track of what you eat. I had the RNY, not the sleeve. I actually have a co-worker friend that was sleeved 1 week after me and she has lost weight much slower than I did.

I write down EVERYTHING I put in my mouth even liquid. I do not drink any caffeine or carbonation. I am SUPER consistent on my food (i eat almost the same thing every day...give or take) and I don't eat any sugar. Sugar is the big thing because it will make you crave other foods. Be active and do what you're suppose to do and you'll be good.

Good luck!!!!!

My bmi was 40.5. I am 3 months post op RNY. Down 60 pounds in the last 4 months. My suggestion is to follow the rules. They are there for a reason and are tried and true. Just my opinion. Working for me. post-300663-14853744489608_thumb.jpg

You look so beautiful and happy! Congratulations on your success! Toning up is my goal for the year so I'm also hitting the gym more now. Having the crock pot always ready and filled with healthy foods is really smart. I've been the most successful when I've planned out meals carefully and have Snacks ready and readily available. When I don't plan out, hunger will sometimes sneak up and pounce on me and I'll be tempted to just grab whatever is the fastest instead of what's the best. I still don't have the same appetite I did pre-surgery, but that will sometimes lead to me not having meals at routine times if I'm busy and then getting ravenous mid-afternoon. I've gone back to keeping an eating and exercise schedule, and that helps. I really like some of the higher Protein, lower carbs / sugar yogurts like Siggi's and the Sweet Cream (which has 11 carbs despite it sounding indulgent) flavor from Liberte (at Whole Foods). Cheese cubes and cashews are another favorite.

Keep up the great work. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
