Slinky - Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!

Wow what a relief and now it's sorted I'll tell you the story of the last few weeks. I had my last fill in the middle of May (3rd fill to bring me up to 6ml) and everything was fine, was starting to feel some restriction and loving it. Then for some reason around the end of August, I started to struggle. I had good days and bad days, but on the bad days I struggled to get anything down and I was getting reflux all night every night. I started to panic at the end of last week because I was even bringing Water back up so I came on here to ask if anyone knew where I could get an emergency de-fill.

Thankfully it was just before the site was taken down for "improvements" (yeah right) and Slinky gave me Julie's number. I called Julie who was very helpful and advised me there are two ladies that can do the de-fills, one in London and the other in Glasgow. That was a bit of a blow as I live in Preston, almost exactly half way between the two!! But I was desperate so I checked out trains then phoned the lady from Glasgow on Friday evening. Her name is Mary and she is marvellous!! I said I'd give her a mention on here. She agreed to see me first thing Saturday morning and even offered to come and pick me up from the local train station!!

She did the de-fill in her house and for some reason could only get 4ml out of my band when there was supposed to be 6ml in it (odd). Anyway, she put 1ml back in as apparently this is best to retain the shape of the band. Instant relief!! I GULPED down a huge glas of water, it's the nicest drink I've ever had in my life!!

So, Mary has been trained by Chris Deprez and is authorised to do the de-fills and if anything goes wrong it's covered with CDB. I said I'd post her number on here in case anyone ever needs it, it's 07763 697120. She is lovely and has been banded herself so knows exactly what we are all experiencing.

Once again Slinky, thank you so much.

Jojo I'm so glad you got sorted out. Being overfilled is just awful isn't it? What a relief you must've felt!! I'm waiting for a refill after having 2.5mls out a few weeks back due to the acid reflux. It's awful isn't it. I got the best nights sleep in ages after the defill!

Slinky I wish I was more motivated like you and did some exercise. I really want to join a gym but hubby is away now and I've got 2 little ones so not really possible. I'm still waiting for my Wii from last Christmas! Maybe I could get Wii fit????????

Mummies - ur doing so well with the weight loss. I'm feeling a little disheartened at the moment, I can eat anything and everything in any amounts. I panic every so often but I need to keep telling myself I've done well and I'm taking a step backwards to take 2 forwards. I just love the feeling of control over food the band helped me with. Before being banded I often felt out of control where food was concerned which I hated. I never want to feel like that again!!

Freckles - I iwll have to try that Protein Drink when I get refilled. I'm praying I can have some restriction but no acid. Pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Scooby ahve a good moan - it's what we're here for to be supportive and honest to each other!! I'm getting impatient now, especially as I've told quite a told of people about my band I feel like I'm being watched!! I just want to lose another couple of stone and stay there. I'm starting to feel human again.

Yeah what the hell have they done to this site!! I thoguht it was may computer playing up!!

Nearly the weekend guys..........................!!

well done claire youve done great you can see you have lost a fair bit of weight,i think my walking is working wonders my body shape has changed alot more than my weight loss,

Thank you. Are you measuring your inch loss? I find that this is an amazing motivator! After a while there is a steady pattern to the loss and then you might have a fill and loss more and then it evens out again. I measure neck, topof chest (Over breasts) under breasts, waist, around stomach, hips, tops of legs and top of arms.

Well done on the changing shape it's lovely isn't it. We have to remember that it'snot a race and that actually slow weight loss over a period of time is better than all off in one go.

How's the eating side of things? Still only able to eat at 5pm?

I can manage (just) some yohurt, Water, coffee, cuppa Soup bit nothing solid as it just doesn't stay there! So I will stick to soup until Jan when this is my next fill and see if the restrictions eases off!! (Fingers crossed) I think Iam struggling energy wise so herbalife shakes have been a godsend!

Have a good day and take care.

Hi all

I saw Dr Chris Duprez at the London clinic for my 4th fill today, and he managed to get 1.5ml in taking me up to 7.5ml.

I am delighted he managed to get so much in, and boy can I feel it even just drinking a cuppa.

We had a really good chat about me getting a bit disheartened at only losing 6lbs since my last fill in June, which is why he said he get whatever he could in, and the fact that it had really slowed down was a good indication I needed quite a bit more.

He also said that he thought this would probably be my last one for a good while, possibly for good, but if I really felt I still needed more restriction to make sure I go back in 4-6 weeks and not leave it so long.

My fault really for leaving it but I did have a holiday inbetween without then having to have a defill.

Fingers crossed that this is the one!

Good luck all xx

Hi FP

It does sound like its possibly slightly too tight, I would make sure you drink plenty of fluids, Dr Chris told me Hot Drinks stretch the band so that might help. Cold drinks cause the Fluid in the band to tighten but can ease heartburn.

I would avoid food at all costs for few days but drink plenty of thin Soups so you are getting some nutrition or perhaps even Protein Drinks

Your body will be shocked at the band being tightened so much and possibly stomach is a little swollen but a few days rest should let it settle down

Let us all know how you are

K xx

Hi All, and Slinky and Scooby thank you for replying.

Well I have lost 6lbs since having the fill on Thursday, but it has not been the most pleasant experience!

So after posting in the early hours of Friday morning I continued being ill and bringing up slime and any sips of Water I took and could not lie down, was up all night and went to work for 7am and proceeded to be ill another 5 times before I could speak with Julie at 9am.

I queried that after the fill it felt tight drinking the water which did go down but made me burp alot (which I also queried at the clinic and was told this was normal at full restriction) and she again said that was normal, and that because I was getting over a cold and was very gunky that was probably why I was bringing up slime and bile as that would struggle to pass the band. She said continue on liquids only and if after 3 days had issues then to come back for emergency defill.

Now I also had a fever yesterday so thought that perhaps I had the sicky bug as I seemed to be bringing up way more than I was actually drinking. I have manged to sleep in only 20 minute bursts and have woke choking a few times, but last night and this morning managed a tiny amount of ice cream which I thought I should try in case I had swelling. I have also had wicked heartburn which has caused some pain at times.

Today Ive only been sick 3 times, and have felt alot better and managed half a cup of hot chocolate Protein Shake Meal Replacement (from Tesco, not bad tasting actually) and a sip of water at a time, however hubs just made me a cup of tea, had a couple of sips, waited a while then got heartburn which took my breath away and made me leap up and I just made it to the loo and I bought up the hot chocolate which I had over an hour ago.

So, clearly now that the band is so tight anything I drink stays in my little tum above the band for ages, so I need to learn to space out the drinking and sipping. But is the heartburn normal or because its too tight?

I know I still need to leave it another day or so for everything to adjust as its not been this tight before, and I am trying not to worry about things but going from hardly any restriction to full on restriction is quite scary I have to say, but the weight loss is fabulous ;)

Has anyone had this and it has settled on its own, or is a defill the only answer?

Many thanks for the advise xx

Hello All

Weighed yesterday and had lost another 2 lbs and 2 inches so up to 49 pounds officially (3 stones 7 pounds) and 42 inches. So pleased. Restriction is still there after I had the fill in October and still only really managing cuppa Soup and shakes. Feel a bit funny at times and ewalise when I am hungry when the others in the family heat up food so then know it's time to eat! Finding it difficult to eat first thing but can manage tea and coffee.

Anyway hope everyone is doing well and taking care of themselves.

Have a lovely weekend.

This is exactly how I have been since my October fill the first week after it all I could manage was warm water nothing else, then I managed to have lucozade (defizzed!!!) and managed to keep that down for a day then lost the contents of my stomach that evening with lots of bile!

I spoke with the emergency defill number and she advised to stick with what worked i.e. the hot water! Cold just wouldn't do anything if anything it made it worse for me.

Anyway after 7 days I was able to keep cuppa Soup down and since then have teied proper food but it wont stay and so I resort to cuppa soup! I look at it that yes I have had good weightloss since this fill (16 pounds) but I am so concous of what I am now having and not having. I have doubled up on my Vitamins etc and have a double cuppa soup if I feel that my energy levels are completely depleted and have herbalife shake added to anythign that will stay put. Drinking yoghurt has been good too and more recently yoghurt.

See how you feel and then decided whether you need to perservere or go for a defill.

HTH - I know not really an answer but it's nice to know there is someone else out there who is also going through the same. My family are quite worried but I have to keep reassuring them this is ok and this is what I signed up for!!

I had a clothes trying on session today and have had a wonderful time recycling my size 20+ clothes. I had a wonderful shock that I can get back into my beautiful black Jaeger suit (16 skirt and 18 jacket) and I was wearing high heels which I haven't done since my knee op in 2008!

Hope you can work through this and restriction gets less or allows more things to go down.

Keep us posted and message if you want any support. From the same boat take care.....

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
