Hi Jasmine

Best of luck for the operation - you will be absolutely fine - every single one of us went through the same feeling of fear, panic and what if that your going through right now but I promise you will receive the best possible care and will be fine.

Remember this is the start of the journey to your new life and will be completely worth it

Look forward to hearing from you when you get back

Hi all

Well I'm back home now, and 2 days post op. I can't believe I did it!

The recovery room was so frightening I thought I was dying! I hadnt realised that I was choking because they were removing the breathing tube from my mouth, I just remember the feeling of not being able to breathe and that I was taking short sharp breathes in. It scared the life out of me!!

Then I was freezing cold and shivering ,ike mad, and I was given one of those inflatable heated blanket thing,s which sorted me rtight out. But although I could barely keep my eyes open I was too afraid to close them for long becuase I was convinced I wouldnt wake up (the choking feeling scared me!!)

The whole time I was lying there wishing I hadnt gone though with it purely becuase I was so frightened during rovery period. But I was so glad to realise I was 'coming to' and could go back to my room.

My partner came with me and he was just superb, I couldnt wish for a better bloke. He did everything for me. I was desperate for a pee and I couldnt move for the pain so he put a bedpan under me, then took it away, then put it back we went on like this for a good 2 hours.

Eventually I said I would just have to try and get to the loo, he pretty much carried me to the loo, and after much ooohhing and ahhhing I managed a little widdle haha.

And then he went to the shop to find me some yoghurt and came back with some beautiful Svarowski earrings (aswell as yoghurt btw)

He's changed all my dressings for me and done my injections. As well as driving 6 hours today to get me home in one piece.

Well so far I am bruised to hell and still quite sore, and can feel the pulling on the port side just as others have described (which makes me feel a bit relieved tbh).

Yesterday 1 day post op I ate some Soup, and a yoghurt and a fair bit of Water.

Today I've had a bowl of soup, milk, yoghurt, and I thought I'd tried some baby food - its surprisingly tasty.

I'm going to book for my 1st fill on May 4th in London.

Hi WTG

Glad you have made it back in one piece and everything is fine. I was the same as you desperate for a wee and found it impossible to go on a bed pan - think it must be a psychological thing - not peeing the bed lol!!!

Remember to keep your Fluid levels up otherwise you will get sore head and your skin will look like that of a 90 year old....

I am now just over 3 weeks post op and stuck to liquids/mush for a week but have managed solid food since then - I can't eat bread though or tuna but have managed everything else ok - I have lost 16 lbs post op so far so am delighted but it has definetly slowed down - 1st fill on 22nd April should help. Just bought myself an exercise bike and cross trainer and gonna start doing 30 mins on each a day to try and help get the weight moving

Keep us posted with your progress

Kerry xx

Bless all you newly banded folk, you wont regret it.

I didnt have any restriction really until my 3rd fill, so dont worry that its not working.

The cider vinegar was only just over a quid in Hollands and Barretts:lol: you crank.

My appointment is at 2pm on thursday, I think I only need .5 ml in to get me to my sweet spot, so here's hoping.:smile2:

WTG your hubby is a star, thats what everyone needs, is he for hire?:(

I dont know why you needed bedpans, I managed to go the loo and I'm an old lady:laugh: and dont foget it was my second band.

I gave up smoking the day of the 'op and stopped until June, then stupidly started again.

I didnt lose any weight at all and blamed that.

I think I will be buying that book, thanx so much for the info.

Hope to see you 2 on thursday:biggrin:

Jasmine we all worry like that, it will be over before you know it babe xx

Hi Kerry

I am the same as you I feel an indigestion like pain if I eat maybe a little too fast or choose something that doesnt go down too well. Anyway I guess we will see the difference when we get our first fill, mines on 8 April. I now know that as my insides have repaired themselves and everything is "normal" that I can eat normally as such, but thankfully in smaller quantities, which sometime makes me feel hungry a few hours later as I only eat a small portion at one sitting. I took my poor starving (ha ha ) wife out to dinner this evening I only manage 3/4 of a portion of chcken breast and half a baked potatoe and a fork full of peas, some something seems to be working, mind you bless her she tucked into an Easter special full turkey roast and loved it, and finished before I did too. Seems I am doing the right thing and eating slowly or by heck I feel it!

My weight seems to be on a plateau few ounces up n down each day, but we're past the first stone marker and I can't wait until it starts again, maybe after Thursday when I go back to liquids after my fill will give it a kick start... I hope so any way. Next stop my Sons wedding on 8th May then off for a well earned week "Self Catering" in the sun in Turkey on 10th May. Looking forward to both so much.

My wounds are all nearly healed up now, but still feel the old port reminding me its there regularliy especially in bed ...ouch:ohmy:

Would anyone please let me know what to expect to feel like after fill number one, so I know what to expect?

Thanks and take care everyone.

Paul

Your first fill is normally quite aggressive so about 3mls or so, you should feel restriction for a while because of the amount they put in but do not be surprised if it only lasts a few weeks or so x

Got my appointment for 2nd fill, 1pm Thursday so I should definitely still be there when you get there Paul, and possibly still be around for Freckles getting there too.

I have a question about a recent discussion regarding restriction. How does it feel to have proper restriction? I currently don't think I have it.... I can eat as much as I like so long as I eat REALLY slowly, some things take longer to go down than others. For instance, if I'm eating chicken, it tends to back up after 3 or 4 well chewed mouthfuls, but once I let that pass, I can eat as much of it as I like. The only way I can think of to describe it is that my band feels like it is completely closed at first, but once the first bit of food pushes it open, I can eat like normal.

I think what I'm trying to ask is, should I be stopping eating as soon as I get that first backed up feeling? If so, I can't imagine getting enough nutrition to get me through a day if I'm honest, 3 meals a day of 3 or 4 small mouthfuls of food doesn't seem right to me.

Hi Carriejess,

Just one small thing my dear CONGRATS, brilliant to hear your going to be what I would class as a s "Yummy Mummy", well done to you both.:)

Next stop Manchester for fill number 1, mind you I suppose it's a good thing it may last a short while, it will give me time to get a little more off, then I can go on my holiday looking better, and get my scars tanned too lol!

Hi JO

NO your not there yet, it is a good habit to attain to stop as soon as you feel it sticking as when you are properly restricted then by god you will know about it and if you feel it sticking and are still chewing then you have went to far. Its amazing how you adapt to not eating much dont get me wrong some days i am hungry and just cant eat others you have to force yourself to eat or you do feel weak. When restrcited if tight you will be lucky to be able to eat chicken or any meat, i have found frozen chicken from asda either raw or the cooked stuff 400g bad when cooked is very very tender and can slip easier, so defo one to try as I had just normal chicken breast yesterday and just could not get it down. I tend to live of rice and sauce with a little chicken, and surprisingly you done get bored.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
