WHO EATS JUST "3 BITES"?

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry, I just really need to know what I'm missing. I'm already a yr out & understand that it'll take more than say 9mos ago to fill me up, however the posts I used to see on IG or FB had me wondering what I was doing wrong when someone would post & say that. and when you ask the person you'd either get ignored or "offend" them by asking how much of something were they able to eat..

just wondering. I've always been able to eat more that just 3 bites of something..

For me it depends on the food and how dense it is. At just over 2 years post-op, the ideal MEAL size for me is 1/2 - 3/4 cup or 2 to 3 ounces of dense Protein and a couple bites of veggies. If I take 1 or 2 bites too many, then I'm miserable for about the next hour. I don't like how I feel physically or psychologically when I've eaten more than what my tummy can handle at a meal, so I try not to go there.

What kind of things have you been eating more than three bites of?

This is very difficult to answer as what is one bite to one person is three bites to another (size wise). However I can be full after a few bites myself depending what I am eating (say steak) and what I have eaten in my previous meals of the day. chicken and fish, I can manage four ounces and a little veg. Some days I eat a lot (well what I consider a lot), some days I will have a couple of spoons of something then I don't want to eat anymore as I feel I am sated.

I am envious when I see people here say they are maintaining on 2000 calories a day and just having that over three meals and no Snacks. I just cannot do that.

I definitely eat more than three bites of everything at 2 years out. A "bite" isn't a unit of measurement, so it's pretty hard to accurately guess what someone means when they say that. I can usually eat about 4-5 oz. of meat like chicken breast or a hamburger patty with some cheese or sauce or whatever. I can eat probably closer to 6-8 oz. of something liquidy, like chili. I can eat probably half a bag of chips... so I don't eat chips!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
