Well, met with my surgeon for the first time today. She was delightful and optimistic. However, she says I need to lose 10 pounds in two weeks and then she will add me to the schedule for surgery. Was I surprised? No, I've been moderately indulging in the foods that I will miss during my weight loss journey. I haven't gained any or loss any since my last weigh in a month ago.

Therefore, I'm on it!....More miles on my treadmill...cut out the sweets, and curb the carbs....I know what to do....Now, I have to do it!....I love a challenge and I love to prove people wrong....so in 14 days...I will see if I'm SERIOUS about this surgery.

This forum answers so many unknown questions and I appreciate the bold honesty of everyone in here....We all are on a mission and won't stop until the mission is complete....Hang in there!!! Let's Get It!

That's alot in 2 weeks. Yikes. I hope that doesn't happen to me. I still have to get my CPAP then an EGD, psych evaluation and 2 more months of supervised weight loss classes. I was told last month that I needed to lose 12.5 lbs. I've lost 4 lbs but it's been hard. I've been eating more Protein, watching the carbs and portion size and walking/jogging 1.5 miles 4 days a week. I feel like I can tell a difference in my size but the weight is slow to move. Normally this would be fine but I'm worried about losing the weight quickly enough. I guess I have 2 months so as long as I can continue to lose about a lb a week I'll be ok. Thinking of joining a gym to add weight training. Good luck.

I had to loose 9lbs in a month. I set-up two week appts. With my dietitian to make sure I keep my goal. I lost two pounds each time I saw her. I did it by doing 14,000 steps a day and calories between 1,000 and 1200. My fit bit and calorie counting did it for me. No carbs and no sugar.

Hills, the weight training will definitely help. Before you join a gym tho, you can pick up a set of resistance bands for much less and exercises at home. You tube has a ton of videos for resistance band exercises too that you can follow along with.

I'm going to do something I've done during a fitness class a few years ago. "Nature's Sunshine" has an all natural Vitamin cleanse...called "ParaCleanse". It's a 10 day cleansing and elimination of the bowels. You must eat clean for those 10 days...no sugars..no alcohol...and...it comes in 10 individual packs which include licorice root, dandelion, etc..that you take everyday for 10days...on this alone...u shed 7lbs..in 10 days...at least I did....

I'm desperate guys....summer & my birthday is coming quickly...The surgeon lit a flame under my ass today...I'm on FIRE !!!....Run, Walk, Crawl...I'm in it for the long haul!...Let's kiss this weight GOODBYE!

@10 you can do this just log your calories, and keep doing cardio do weights once a week. That is what my dietitian told me and it worked and drink 65 ounces of Water a day. I did cleansing as well. Mostly Fiber pills. I was under fire to get the surgery as well as my time was coming to an end with job elimination. I was seriously obsessed with the scale. I did everything to burn calories.

That kind of weight loss is going to require more than just exercise (unless you can walk 20 miles a day!)

You need to do something like the liquid Protein preoperative diet, or something similar. Tiny amounts of lean Protein and spinach.. maybe 500 cal day.

The cleanse is a good idea too.

What sort of dr expects someone to lose a pound a day? (Think of it that way because it can take a couple days for the body to change the hormones to begin losing weight).

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
