So.. The Gym?

Recommended Posts

I have lost 77 lbs in about 7 month, I started out at 267. So now that the semester has changed I have started going to the gym 3 days a week.. but I feel like everyone looks at me like the fat girl who won't be there after a week or 2. I just go in anyways and do my workouts, but it makes me uncomfortable.. anyone else have feelings like this?

Now its time to own it! You have exceed expectations already... Now its time to own who you are and who you will become. You are there for you and no one else, put your music to your ears and zone out! It don't matter what everyone else thinks its about how you feel after you had a power-house workout.

Don't think about anyone else. I know it's easier said than done and I understand the insecurity of standing out. But screw them. If they are judging you, who gives a shit. You're there for you and to be healthier. And no one should stand in your way, especially turds wearing weightlifting gloves. Take it.

Honestly a lot of people are feeling just as self conscious. You are your own worst critic. I don't remember who said this but here are some great quotes:

"It's none of your business what others think of you"

"A slow half mile is still a half mile. Getting off the couch starts with one foot in front of the other".

I think you should assess whether this is the right gym for you. If everyone there really is skinny, wearing matching Lulu lemon type stuff, then maybe you would be more comfortable at a community gym like the Y.

If you already go to a regular gym full of regular people at a variety of weights and fitness levels, then I agree with PPs that you actually need to change your attitude. If you still feel like the fat girl when you've lost 77 pounds (amazing, by the way!) and are just projecting onto other people who probably aren't even thinking about you, then you have to figure out why (psychologically) you feel that way. Yes, there will always be a few rude people around, but most people at most gyms are nice. They are there to lose weight and/or stay healthy, too, and they are mostly interested in making sure they stay on track, not in how you are doing or whether you keep going back.

Thank you all for your kind words and advise! I really like this gym, and there are a variety of different levels of people there, I guess I just need to worry about myself and keep hitting it

I used to be a mess at gym. Now I don't care. I am all over that place and one of my favorite pieces of equipment is the smith machine. I love isolation super sets and when the hubby is with me I love to weighted ball throws. People look at me "like what the hell"? But it does stop me from doing it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
